Channel 5/Boxing Update

Great news but it slightly worries me that it's Hennessy who is looking favourite to get a contract. Could this be the second terrestrial channel he ****s it up with....... Considering his stable..... Probably :good

 

Dont want to put a dampener on it but Hennessey doesnt have the stable to make a go of it. Needs to be Fwank or Matchroom. As mentioned by someone else its all well and good people watching Fury vs Chisora but are they gonna be interested in Phurious Phil Fury vs Steve super **** Barnes

 

I wonder if 5 would be able to do good numbers with a cheap card coming up, the Chagaev vs Povetkin and Helenius vs Liakhovich card. Sell it as the next opponent for Klitschko. Could be worth a gamble, can't see it costing much to pick that up.

hard enough to get em to show British boxers, no chance they show a bunch of unknown Europeans whose names they cant pronounce

maybe not,but if channel 5 are offering him good money im sure he could win purse bids for fights that are not his etc ... not beyond his reach ..

 

Domestic boxing should be on TV. There should be national interest. Plus domestic boxers get paid the sort of money that makes it viable. It simply isn't viable to have international boxing on terrestial tv. If its in America, its too late and if its in the UK we can't afford it.

Sky should be the format for big fights, world title fights, PPVs etc

British and C'Wealth champs can fight in small venues around the UK and their pay doesn't break the bank. I'm sure ALOT of them would cut their pay for terrestial tv because they should be able to get LOADS from sponsorship.

Yes but you're forgetting all of the big European thus World class heavyweight fights are now on in Germany, so there is no start time problem. C5 could be picking up those cards for peanuts and be able to show them on sometime around 9pm to 11pm. Hell, even if they only showed those on one of their extra channels like 5 USA they could still do excellent numbers after promoting the fight through The Daily Star and the like.

There was probably some Germans saying similar about the Klitschko's 10 years ago, look at them now.
All international boxers are unknown until promoted, always have been always will be. It's quite a ridiculous response from you really. If you had the chance would you also not have shown a young unheard of Cassius Clay?

Looking at the upcoming Chagaev vs Povetkin and Helenius vs Liakhovich card. If you can't sell that to a decent enough amount of the public then boxing doesn't deserve to grow in Britain. Britain deserves to have to put up with nothing but shows for homosexuals. You have 2 former World champs, an olympic gold medal winner, plus the best prospect in the division. I find it hard to believe Richard Desmond couldn't massively promote that card through his Daily Star and Express papers.
