Yeah, Locche was something else. I wonder what his record would have been if he's have fought outside Argentina more often though?

Sound boxing lesson. Mate go and watch the fight then come back to me. Absolutely absurd. The blueprint was how wide open he is to the uppercut. A shot Pac dropped him with Marg dropped him with etc.

That' not how it works. You have to watch all of the good aand bad of a fighter, figure out who he beat, when he beat them, and what he achieved.

You could show someone the Gatti fight for instane and say 'look how good this boxer is'. Without telling them Gatti is ****, they might believe you.

I could show them the first Castillo fight and they'd say 'the black guy didn't do enough'. If you tell them the circumstances, and show them the rematch, only then can you give you each fighters true worth.

So I'm afraid I can't take you up on your offer, one fight couldn't sway anyone and there are so many that not one could offer up everything needed to win someone round. I will leave this, just for the pure enjoyment :good

But if the likes of Ali, Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson and Roberto Duran aren't enough to convince you to delve further back, I'm not sure what will. But that's fine.

Margarito wore him down, it wasnt just one shot he hurt him with. From the mid rounds onwards Margarito was puting on unbelievable pressure on and wore him down completely in the 11th.

I said this on the 'your top ten fighters' the other day, and I don't think it's controversial at all, it's obvious to anyone who has ventured off of boxrec and actually bothered to watch the guy: HE'S ****ING FIERCE!!!

I'm glad someone else has said it though: as you say, there are still too many people that look at his K.O% (like Holt to an extent) and say 'not a puncher'. Gavilan was as spiteful as they come, with a dynamic offence, and could bludgeon people from the outside, mid-range or on the inside. HARD AS **** AND NEVER STOPPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (jpab you're the man :good)

Just do what I do when anyone says it '**** off'. He fought a lot of big, durable middleweights, people forget that.

I think if you are looking at "dipping your toes" into old fights then the 70s and 80s are a good starting point because the film quality is generally decent and in colour, its not such a culture shock as watching 1930s or 40s fights in stuttering B/W.

Yeah, the shot could have been an uppercut, a hook or a bolo punch. It was the fact that Cotto was ****ed that caused the knockdown.

If you like going back in time and looking back at old fighters thats fair enough. I just love the glitz and the glamour of the sport, the big entrances, the build up, the current big fight nights, thats just enough for me and I just can't be bothered going back in time lol.

    Thats just me though!!

He was so popular at home he didnt need to travel but would have lost a lot more decisions.

I still smile everytime I see clips of him in action. NI-CO-LINO, NI-CO-LINO!

Give those two defensive fighters videos a look, might give you a perspective of how many great defensive fighters there have been :good

I reckon thats more to do with availability of televisions, radios and internet these days. Its a lot to do with how relevant they are aswell, watching a Leonard or Hagler fight isn't going to make me think, they are going to be fighting so n so next, so I see it has a little pointless if you get me.
