I'm not all that big of a Taylor fan, not a very smart fighter I don't think. Had the capabilities to be a good boxer but brawled too much. Far too predictable and had poor balance, always shoe-shined, starting with the body and moving his way up every time. Easy for smarter fighters to read IMO.

Yeah, but in terms of pure handspeed he was right up there, with the fighting heart to try and outthrow anyone you put in front of him.

In terms of long term prospects, of course it didn't bode well. But he was what he was and, for a while, class.

He gets kudos for giving a peak JCC the toughest fight of his career :deal

Yeah, he did have excruciatingly fast hands(for the opponent), but he wasn't intelligent enough as a fighter to implement it to the full.

He guarenteed excitement but, viewing audience aside, that's not necessarily a good thing in the grand scheme of things, and certainly didn't benefit the man himself.

They(his handlers) should have made him a bit more disciplined, because he had the tools to do it, and iron out his flaws. It would've added to his longevity and as a result his legacy IMO.

I don't dislike him, just too much unfulfilled potential to make me a kind of die-hard fan of him.

His mangement certainly didn't pull their punches. They consistenly threw him in with the toughest out their. For instance, he has a tough learning curve fight against Brazier, then they put him straight in against Howard Davis Jr? That is tough love, if you ask me. It's got nothing on 2 of his first fights at Welterweight (after being physically savaged against Chavez), being vs unbeaten Aaron Davis and Luis Gabriel Garcia, both of whon were tough for him stylistically and much bigger than him physically. His managers really wanted to push him, didn't they?

Don't even start me on the Norris fight :-(

    He's certainly no ATG.

Leon Spinks is another guy who really could've done with more guidance. But, I guess if a man wants to party, he'll party

Early draw and unmotivated (past prime) Ali or not, Leon looked good in their first fight. He had Olympic pedigree and a fearsome reputation.

After those dizzy heights, he just plummeted.

Faster hands- Davis or Macho Camacho?

    :think

A lot of people say Davis had the fastest hands ever, I'd probably side with Camacho myself.

Meh, we know the score with Norris anyways, picking on smaller men. A past prime, not so big welter in Taylor going against a beast of a light-middle like Terry was madness. Norris was an excellent, brutal finisher, and that Meldrick had no business being in the ring with him.

Fighters are often managed poorly, and while it's the case with Taylor, he did himself no favours in the way in which he fought. He could've been truely great IMO if he became a little more refined, which was more than feasible. As it stands, he didn't, which will forever hinder his legacy.

Yep, Camacho was super fast. Best performance: JL Ramirez :deal

Gamboa is exceptionally fast as well.
