Pac and Marquez never fought at 135. Maybe Marquez doesn't get up from those knockdowns at 135. For all you know it's Pac KO1 the first time or KO3 the 2nd
Mayweather beats Marquez handidly at any weight. Marquez got outboxed by Norwood and Chris John. This is a terrible matchup for Marquez. You have two counterpunchers and one is bigger, faster, better defensively, and has better footspeed. How the hell would Marquez ever win this fight? Marquez is simply not on Mayweather's level.
Stylistically, Marquez can't deal with Floyd. He's a great fighter, but his style would befuddle Marquez. Marquez always struggled with defensive fighters like Floyd.
Marquez is way better than Castillo but again, I could only see a very close fight in Mayweathers favour at lightweight. Again at 130 Marquez is in his prime and has the speed capable of beating floyd
You think Mayweather gets put on the canvas by the likes of Katsidis? You think Mayweather gets rocked by Juan Diaz? Castillo vs Marquez at 135 is a toss up. Mayweather vs Marquez at 135 is a blow out.
135lb Marquez is no where close to being "way" better then Castillo. Juan Diaz isnt close to the fighter Jose Luis Castillo was in his prime. At 135, Marquez vs Castillo would be a toss up.
Floyd vs Castillo was also a toss up at 135. IMO and a lot of other people they went 1-1 And I think Marquez edges Castillo out with movement and precision punching with powerful combinations to the gut and his killer uppercuts up the middle.
A healthy Floyd beat Castillo convincingly with no doubt who the better fighter was. If Castillo and Marquez fought 10 times, I'd probably pick Castillo to win 6. Marquez was pushed by feather fisted Diaz, knocked on his ass by Katsidis, the fight with Casamayor was razor thin before the knockout. And Casamayor was past it. You are talking about the greatest lightweight in the world for around 5 years, to a bunch of also rans.
Floyd would win a UD easily on the cards. A smaller margin than the higher weight fight, but Floyd is just a better fighter and the style matchup easily favors Floyd by UD.
I think you're exaggerating Floyd's win over Castillo as it was still a close fight where he lost at least 4 or 5 rounds. Marquez is a slow starter and that's all that happened against Diaz. By the halfway point of the fight it wasn't even a question who was gonna win the fight. At the end of the day he KTFO everyone he's fought at 135 which is quite impressive and shows that he is a BAMF with power at the weight and power is definitely something he couldn't bring to the table against Floyd at 147 (and IMO something that bothers Mayweather a lot). JMM also took Katsidis' bomb at 135 and IMO came back to dominate the very same round which leads me to believe that Floyd's power wouldn't impress him much at LW like it did at WW. You watch Floyd's first three fights at 135 and there is nothing too incredible although his last fight against NDou he looked amazing.
Except Floyd's power at 135 was proven better than his power at 147. I can't see it being much different because when I watch the Mayweather vs. Marquez fight, I see too large of a gap between overall technical skill. Marquez is a good boxer and totally smart, but I just can't see him bringing anything to the table that troubles Floyd. Marquez is a great fighter and a wonderful lightweight, but styles make fights, and Marquez' style matches up really really bad against Floyd's
Floyd easily wins a decision. Marquez is going to sit in the center of the ring with Mayweather the entire fight, he doesn't have the style, speed, power or angles, footwork, etc to beat Mayweather there Castillo is a completely different style of fighter than Marquez, don't even understand why Castillo is even being brought up in this thread
Floyd KO ratio is higher at 147 than at 135. And that is against bigger fighters than he was fighting at 135. So his power is better at 135 than 147? I don't see that big a gap in technical skill between Floyd and Marquez. Floyd is way better defensively but from a technical standpoint Marquez is better offensively and probably has the sharpest punches and combos in the entire sport. Marquez is really an amazing technician in his own right.
Let's think about this, people are actually suggesting that a past prime Marquez, not fighting at his best weight, would beat a prime Mayweather. That's completely ridiculous. Marquez landed 69 punches in 12 rounds against Mayweather. Meanwhile Mayweather landed damn near 60% of his punches, and this is coming off a 2 year layoff. That tells me everything I need to know about Marquez's chances in this proposed matchup.
Been reading these posts and it shocks me to be honest. No way Marquez beats Floyd at any weight. People saying he'd have a shot at 130 are taking some serious drugs. And I'm a huge Marquez fan, but the stuff these guys are saying is borderline crazy. I'll tell you what, Morales, Barrera, and Marquez would not have beat Floyd at 130. They should be glad he went up in weight.
