Why is Calzaghe considered a ducker?

like some other guy said, why do you think amir khan is headlining PPV fights at 24 when calzaghe wasn't known at 30?

it isn't rocket science and you can cry foul all day, but the simple truth is that a fighter's actions and career choices dictate how they will be remembered.

 

not saying it's the whole reason, but amir khan was very easy to market in the UK after his olympic silver medal, this helped him get ppv shows and therefore made him a draw to big name fighters as he pulled in th $$$$.....

 

headlining PPV in the US has nothing to do with UK exposure and olympic medals though.
beating guys like barrera and then being willing to up the ante in states does.

 

yea it does, if you get uk exposure you bring in money, which makes you able to get bigger fights, which makes you more marketable in the us..

 

only if you follow it up by going over there to fight bigger fish.

hatton did, khan did. froch took his opportunity when taylor took that fight.
otherwise you end up like johnny nelson, junior witter, felix sturm, and anyone else who doesn't want to make the jump.

 

yea, your right. but you could argue calzaghe did this by fighting hopkins...

he didnt have nearly as much as exposure as khan has had, and this is probably one reason he failed to get the big fights early in his career...

don't get me wrong i think he could have done more to get the fights, but khan has had an easier time to get them...

 

khan's only had an easier time because he was willing to go to the states. if khan didn't do that, it wouldn't take long before networks and fans in the states would've overlooked him.

remember, calzaghe only headed to the states after jones and hopkins hit their forties, had been beaten and lost their crowns. then he tried to pawn off the wins as legitimate (which danny green copycatted from australia).

 

just traveling to the us doesnt get you big fights....i went there once and you don't see me fighting RJJ.... you have to have good exposure and bring in money, something that, for whatever reason khan has had a better time of it than calzaghe..

 

khan beat barrera which stands for something - just like joe's win over lacy.
how hard do you think it would have been for joe to fight ranked fighters around LHW, or even joppy at a catchweight, to work towards making a hopkins or jones fight legit when it mattered.

 

i agree he could have done more, but you can't dispute khan has had an easier path....

i mean who was hanging around MW, SMW or LHW at that time who would be considered more dangerous than judah?

 

well i was meaing in terms of marketing and media exposure rather than the fights.

but judah?? bad example.. he's shot..., eubank was a tougher challenge....

marketing and media exposure are useless if, like i said, you aren't prepared to take that rep overseas and build on it

 

well, i would disagree. i think the eubank calzaghe fought was a much tougher challenge than the judah khan fought, i woud say most people on here would agree.

yea, your right marketing and media exposure is useless, unless you build on it like khan did, or like calzaghe finally did when he had it behind him..
