Pavlik can forget Bute. Within a week, Glen Johnson will be announced as Bute's next opponent. I personnally prefer that fight, as a boxing fan. Pavlik was a bigger name but not a better fighter. At least, we know what to expext from Johnson. Not from Pavlik, unfortunately.
http://www.vindy.com/news/2011/aug/02/pavlik-fight-called/?nw It's still there. "I'm not fighting a southpaw for peanuts"-Kelly Pavlik atsch
Wow, thats actually the best post I've read from one of you Bute fans in a long LONG time. Bute vs. Johnson, that's a fight I'd stay up for, for sure!
http://www.thesweetscience.com/news...ut-kelly-pavlik-withdraws-from-saturday-fight “Top Rank is very disappointed at Kelly’s sudden decision to discontinue the rebuilding of his boxing career,” said Todd duBoef, president of Top Rank, Pavlik’s promoter. “Kelly’s team specifically outlined a strategy for Kelly to return to the ring in an effective fashion. Kelly’s team gave us their objectives and we set them on a course, which began last May with Kelly’s fight against Alfonso Lopez and was to continue on Saturday against Darryl Cunningham. It seems Kelly has derailed this plan."
Boxing is widely popular in Canada, and a fight of this magnitude would generate lots of money, a whole lot more than $5m, landing Pavlik at under 20% of the total revenue. $1m is not peanuts as Pavlik said, in a sense, but it's also not a good piece of the pie.
I was always under the impression that when the figures are put out like that, that it means thats the guaranteed money (in this case Kelly being guaranteed at least 1.1 mil). Whatever the gate/tv rights amounts to is settled in an percentage.
Yep, Pavlik was the backup for Kessler. Johnson is the back up for Pavlik. If it's true Pavlik is delusional if he thinks he worths more than 1 million.
odds we hear about another Pavlik drinking bender in the next 3 days? :roflatsch This guy has thrown his career away. :-(
So basically he is saying I am not losing for 1 mil. Pavlik knows he has a slim chance of winning if any and he wants to cash out.
