MAybe the Bute fight was already a done deal conditional to a win on Saturday?

Only way to escape was...Not to win.

But HBO doesn't have anyone at 168. The best they can do is get Super Six leftovers, and there's no potential there for the money KP was set to get with Bute. Dicking over Showtime — not to mention his hometown fans — defies any logic.

Top Rank has said explicitly that this was not the case. Pavlik cancelled this fight for a reason other than Bute.

I'm a Pavlik fan, and I happen to agree with and am happy he pulled out of both fights.
I'm happy to hear he will not fight Cunningham because I feel it is too dangerous a fight for Kelly at this point in time.
The better scenario is for Bute to face Cunningham first, but I'm sure Bute's management will not allow him to see that level of risk.

I'm pleased he pulled out of the Bute fight because he is not happy with the money, and there is no way in hell that Bute should receive the larger portion.
I hope this fight is re-negotiated and Kelly then proceeds to whoop Bute ****** ass, before moving on to fight either Froch, Dirrel, or Ward. :yep

    How about that then:

"Arum said that Pavlik agreed to fight Cunningham for a minimum of $50,000 and then, if he was victorious, face IBF super middleweight titleholder Lucian Bute for $1.35 million as part of a 60-40 split in favor of Bute and his promoter, Jean Bedard.

Pavlik apparently became upset he came to believe that Mikkel Kessler was offered more than $3 million to fight Bute. Kessler turned down the offer.

"I am very disappointed,” Arum said. “(Top Rank President) Todd (duBoef) negotiated this deal at least a couple of weeks ago. So it's not like Kelly didn't know far in advance what he was getting in the entire deal.

    Oh no...not him...

Look at the hater/fanboy now thinking Pavlik should not have a too dangerous fight...

Just thinking about your reaction if it was Bute who pulled out of a "tune up" fight:D

No one said that its a FACT he's the best athlete in the sport. He said it as an opinion and said that it was a FACT that he is an athletic phenomenon which it is. And no one can deny that and if you do you dont know what you are talking about.

:patschIf he didnt sign the contract this fight had nothing to do with the Bute fight except that he actually had to win it to be offered the fight. I dont see this being the only fight in history that a tune up and a big fight were part of the same contract.

Later, Pav. It was fun rooting for you a few years back. I always liked your attitude in the ring. Your fights were fun to watch. I always hoped for your sake you'd get it together and make another title run, but I guess it wasn't to be. Oh well.

Sorry, that doesnt look like an opinion: "Dirrell is the single best athletic specimen in boxing at the moment."

    More like a fact.

What Arum said: "Arum said that Pavlik agreed to fight Cunningham for a minimum of $50,000 and then, if he was victorious, face IBF super middleweight titleholder Lucian Bute for $1.35 million as part of a 60-40 split in favor of Bute and his promoter, Jean Bedard."

    But who knows for sure....
ANd I was just trying to explain it.
Just trying. Not saying it as a fact. :D
