Great videos to analyze Manny at "THAT" point of his career but doesn't help in creating an effective game plan to deal with the version of PAC we see today. Movement is good for any fighter to have and incorporate but to claim that what Shane did wasn't anything shy of "running" is a joke. Shane was not strategically implementing movement to create opportunities or lay traps...he was "Moving" for the purpose of staying AWAY from Manny.... Shane was in survival mode and that instinct to self preservation overtook his heart and put on the performance you are trying to some how give credit to Shane for. JMM will unfortunately catch the same kind of outcome with more devasting results that he had when he tried his luck against anther bigger fighter in Floyd when he has his 3rd fight with PAC.
The creator of that video clearly showed the video proof of Pac still being the same fighter offensively and throwing the same combinations he's always thrown. .....so I say that same gameplan that Marquez used and that was copied in Morales winning effort still beats Pacquiao. What these videos show is that if there has been some tweeks to Pacquiao's game, they have'nt been drastic enough to nullify a good boxer that employs the technicalities of the sport to rely on winning. I did'nt say otherwise. In fact before the fight, I'm on record in this forum as having said that Mosley could not beat Pac trying to employ a boxing strategy. He was too old and off his showings vs Mayweather and more so vs Mora were showing that he did'nt have the reflexes to counter against just a decent opponent, much less a fast opponent like Pacquiao. Agreed 100%, past the 3rd round, Mosley fought to survive and just ran........but it still does'nt erase the fact that Pac looked amatuerish trying to force the issue on a Mosley that was running, but was at times just latteraling. There were many times in the fight where Pacquiao lunged in and looked bad with just Mosley turning (not running) however Mosley could'nt and likely in his survival mode never had the mindset to pull the trigger on a counter. The fact still remains that movement (not just running) was able to draw Pacquiao just as off balance as Marquez made him out to be both times they fought. Just explained that. I never credited Mosley, just pointed out that even the slightest lateral movement all of a sudden made Pac look ordinary. I dont think so. I dont think Pac has the boxing pedigree to come close to outboxing Marquez, so I dont think Pac will come close to laying the hands on Marquez tha the laid on DLH, Cotto, etc...... Against Marquez, Pac will have the same chance he's always had in his previous two attempts at Marquez, the punchers chance. Pac may very well be too big, fast, and juiced now for a 38 year old on the decline. It will still be of interest for me if even an old bloated version of Marquez with his skillset can still keep a fast and juiced fighter like Pac off of him. Would'nt shock me one bit if Marquez still has it in him to pull it off. The only difference with me now and the confidence that I had in the first two fights that a fighter of the skillset of Pacquiao could not legitly decision Marquez, is that I cant simply just ignore that Marquez is wil be 38 and fighting 2 weight divisions past his current weight division. Pacquiao always had a punchers chance vs Marquez, the first two fights showed that, the question now remains if Marquez at his 38 years......has his reflexes diminished enough where he wont be able to get back on the counter after Pac initiates offense. We're talking about mlliseconds of reaction time here that can make a huge difference. I'm not convinced either way whether Marquez has lost enough of his reaction time to compete against as fast a fighter as Pacquiao. The Mayweather fight did'nt convince me one way or the other because Mayweather is a drop and go type of fighter. He hits and his legs are already moving out and away before his punch has even landed. .....and lastly, will a 38 year old 2 years removed from the Mayweather fight, still be able to hang with the fast pace a Pacquiao fight will surely bring? I think those are variables nobody truly knows with certainty about.
divac- Not sure what you mean when you say Pac only has a puncher's chance. To me a puncher's chance means the only way you win is if you get a lucky KO, otherwise you'd lose pretty soundly. Both those fights were pretty close on the scorecard, there were no KOs. Lastly, I think you will be one of the few that wouldn't be suprised if JMM won. Most people have Pac winning pretty easily, even JMM fans. Their only hope is that it will be competitive while it lasts.
Manny's foundation is still the same...it's just more solid and his overall skills are more dynamic. PAC's offense has always bee great based on his explosiveness. But You're fooling yourself if you think that PAC is a one or two trick pony. There are MANY Combinations in PAC's arsenal that he uses more frequently than most use the standard "1,2 combo". If you honestly feel PAC is the same fighter he was for the loss to EM then you are delusional. JMM's only shot to beat PAC is by a perfectly placed shot where the moons and stars perfectly align at the exact time JMM decides to go for the opening. Manny's faced PLENTY of "good boxers" who have all failed to capitolize on the "blueprint" that EM laid down b/c the fact is PAC is not the same fighter....those who think he is will suffer the same fate every other fighter who's fell before PAC has. PAC is a nice guy with a mean streak when it's brought out. The thing about Shane was Manny had a hard time putting his foot on the gas b/c of Shane's demeanor. He felt bad for him and I think it didn't allow him to fight with his full ferocity. PAC couldn't have cut off the ring with Shane the way he was on the move. Shane is still a vet.....a seasoned fighter with a lot of craft from years of fighting the "who's who" of boxing. So if Shane had it in his mind to survive...which he did, then it would be hard for anyone to change the outcome that he was going to make it 12.....especially when his corner wouldn't allow him to quit. PAC wasn't off balance all too much.....he did lunge a few times to catch Shane but it was more out of frustration that Shane wasn't fighting than PAC making dumb moves just b/c. There's been plenty of fighters who implemented lateral movement with PAC..... Everyone failed to make it work. Some had marginal success but the final product was PAC leaving the ring with the "W". PAC's just on anther level than JMM at this stage. He's in a situation where JMM deserves a payday and it's a fight with history, but make no mistake.....JMM is a sacrificial lamb as Ortiz is for Floyd. PAC's not "JUICED" up although I understand why you want to hold on to that. It gives you a nice, built in excuse to rationalize what you already know will take place in the 3rd fight. You would be VERY surprised if JMM came out the winner even if you say you won't. Everyone would. It would go against all that is logical. I know JMM is a warrior and won't go out like Shane...but the risk involved with being cut from that kind of cloth is one that has a likely and devastating outcome. One that Shane avoided and tried to get out of. JMM may lose and lose badly....but he'll get more respect for his performance than Shane even though Juan gets Knocked out early.
I was around in this forum when fight 2 happened, and I was one of the very few who not only gave Marquez a chance, I picked him outright to box the pants off of Pacquiao, and this coming off of Pacquiao's destruction of Morales which had all the others convinced Pacquiao was an improved two fisted fighter who could also box. I did'nt think the first two fights were close. Competive yes, close no...... When I say punchers chance it means Pacquiao cannot boxistically compete with Marquez. I'm 100% convinced that mentally Marquez is in this third fight to win and nothing Pac can do in the ring will deter Marquez mindset in the ring. Thats just the strenghth Marquez has mentally. Very few can go through sheer pain and keep trying to establish the gameplan they set out to establish. Mentally, Marquez is not going to go to pieces and mentally crumble because speed and power is coming at him at a fast rate. In fact the harder Pacquiao brings it, the better I like Marquez' chances as it gives Marquez himself a chance to land a big shot on a fighter in Pacquiao that will walk into the punch. (those types of connects have more effect.) ......anyways, if this 3rd fight goes rounds, it means Marquez has found a way to stave off Pac's aggression, and it means he's landing his counters. If Marquez' reflexes are not up to par vs Pacquiao, I dont see him going into survival mode, I see him gunning to time Pac and take him out, which means either or will get knocked out. One thing I'm absolutely certain of, Pacquiao will not outbox Marquez over the long haul of the fight, which is why I say that for him to win the fight legitly, I can only see a KO happening, thus my explanation on "punchers chance." .....so yeah, In this fight, punchers chance does'nt necessarily equate to getting lucky. On the other hand, the lucky part for Pac would be that he'd be dealing with a 38 year old bloated fighter that accomplishes that goal.
emmanuel wasn't showing any of the effects of a weight drained fighter in the previous bout. There wasn't anything to suggest he had problems with his chin, stamina, strength, etc. Marquez countering and footwork is what troubled emmanuel. emmanuel doesn't have the footwork and jab necessary to deal with Juan's calculated steps backwards. Juan is going to lose but not by a brutal KO, let alone a stoppage. Juan even wins a few rounds in the process of his lost.
