All this bull**** about Pavlik not being "relevant" for over a year is meaningless. What does that mean? He had a booze problem and now he says he is back in shape. Why should you call him irrelevant? Do you think he has forgotten how to punch? He's still Kelly Pavlik. Relevant.

Most ridiculous post I've ever read. You say Pavlik hasn't beaten a top opponent in years, ignoring the fact that Bute has NEVER beaten a top opponent.

At least Pavlik FIGHTS top opponents!

The real question is WTF does he do now? He's obviously ****ed over Showtime, I can't see how Top Rank can be happy (considering the money they have invested on the front end), this was a horrible move. It's not like Bradley who at least had the sense not to agree in the first place, he just left everyone hanging, this is not good at all.

PAvlik outboxed Sergio for a good portion of the fight. The only man to be knocked down was Sergio. Without the annoying cut, Pavlik would have won. But you need blood to be strong.

I agree Bute hasn't beaten "anyone", but Pavlik is not the name on the poster, and he's not going to put the butts in the seats, Bute will. Bute is the champ, he is the draw, and deserves the larger share of the purse, period. Who has Pavlik beat to deserve a 168 lb title shot?

Lol...you are ****ing crazy. Outboxed him for a "good portion of the fight", scored a knock down, and still lost...How does that work? He got beat soundly by Martinez, to the point he didn't want a rematch.

gotta question the wisdom of calling 1.1 million +40% peanuts when the bulk of your fans that make you a viable draw come from Youngstown, Ohio.

Pavlik is the one who wanted the fight in Montreal.

You're insane if you think Pirog brings anywhere near the money to the table that Bute does. His own promoter wanted to take his upcoming fight, against another Russian, to China because there's no major TV backing in his home country. Beyond that, as mentioned above, Pavlik can no longer make 160 so that's not a realistic option.

This shows how little you know about boxing.
If the fight was held in AC then neither Pavlik nor Bute would be able to make a million dollars. The big money for this fight is ALL about happening in Montreal. Pavlik couldn't pull 10% of the fans that Bute can bring to the table.

he probably does but in all honesty what has he done lately? He should get on the winning track and make a case that he is worth more money.

Completely logical, and agreed. There is hope for you yet Beetle Baily.
If Kelly was to receive $1M, then Bute should have been receiving $500,000. No way does Bute deserve more $$ than Pavlik. Pavlik is the first real body that Bute has ever faced.

I don't know the financial arrangement for the Cunningham fight, but I think it was bad timing for Pavlik in his comeback.
Pavlik would have gained more from beating Bute the Hype, in a similar manner that Calzaghe got boosted by beating the hype, Lacy. :yep

Fighting in Canada, Bute is the draw and not Pavlik. At first it seemed Pavlik was making 1.1 million and I didn't have a big problem with him looking for more money. Now, it seems, he was really making 1.35, + 25,000 for training, and upside if the fight did well. Its not unreasonable to think Pavlik could have made 1.5/1.6 million for this fight. Thats 500,000 more than I thought he would make and he should take the fight and payday. Pavlik is going to have a hard if not impossible time making that kind of money anywhere else.

Then, pulling out of Saturday's fight on several days notice is simply a dumb move by Pavlik. He needed the rounds, would make 50,000, and could argue about the Bute purse after he beat Cunningham. Makes you wonder is something bigger going on in Pavlik's life. It will be interesting to see what Pavlik does from here.
