First it was NOnito Donaire who was riding on a wave following his KO victory over Montiel. Then suddenly,he decided to change promoters, got into legal trouble, wasted precious time and momentum by sitting idle until Top Rank reached a compromise with him. Then it was Bradley, the top 140lbs fighter last year who was on a roll despite his so-so victory over Alexander. Now where is he? he is facing a lawsuit over his promotion contract, he missed his chance on Amir Khan, and is being made irrelevant day after day without a fight Now we have Kelly Pavlik who refused to fight Bute over alleged underpayment of purse, and he walked out on a bout with Cunningham because he's not "fighting any southpaw for peanuts." Wow, he just basically ended his career right there. Who would want to promote and broadcast his fights now? These guys have a manager, Cameron Dunkin and i don't know what he's trying to do with his fighters but being their manager, he has to know or at least have influenced their decisions. Arum mentioned he was there when Pavlik walked out on Cunningham and he was supporting Pavlik's decision not to fight. The way he does business, he's making his fighters act like superstar primadonnas when in fact they have not yet earned the right to do so, at the risk of ruining their career and wasting their prime years without fights.
^^ I hope he stays that way and does not compromise his career over matters that would put lady gaga to shame
Pavlik did blame Dunkin right alongside Top Rank for this latest development in his interview tonight.
He was complaining about never receiving contracts with adequate time to review them and claimed that only recently getting the one for the Cunningham fight and seeing the low purse is why he pulled out. He said that this is at least partly Dunkin's fault.
He should drop them (Dunkin and Arum) and go elsewhere. Arum just said that he doesn't trust Pavlik anymore so they should just let him go. Pavlik needs to change his whole team and try something radically new to help him get his mind right and motivate him.
