Or maybe he's the opposite and deluded about his actual worth.

I think his defence is so **** and he would be standing in front of Kelly looking to out land him and the Pavlik that got up to pulverise taylor would of been able to battle through the blizzard and find a home for his much harder shots all night. But, that Pavlik got lost inside a bottle and I agree that drunk Kelly would have just been overwhelmed.

I think he knows that he's just a name to get slaughtered now and thats why he wanted more coin. He probably figures that a few wins against some less sturdy opponents and he will be able to take a bigger pay check after earning some nice ones against journey men, maybe even get his mojo back. Bute at this time would ruin him to such a degree that he would never be able to make any serious money fighting again. Or he's drunk.

Surely $1 million+ isn't a bad purse for a challenger at super middle?

Michael Rosenthal is a really dreadful writer to be so senior. He just can’t help editorialising – really, he’ll regret it his WHOLE LIFE, will he?

Anyway, Pavlik is having some serious issues and has been since he lost to Hopkins. He’s a very bitter person, despite his success. His manager, Cameron Dunkin, tried to get him to move to NYC or Florida to get away from his blue-collar compatriots. But he won’t go.

Sloppy work. Pavlik needs ring time to sharpen up or the Kesslers and Butes of this world will feast on him.

Did you hear that Jermain Taylor’s making a comeback?

At 160 I think. Even if he steps up and fights Bute next, name aside, its a hell of a tough sell for Showtime.

    Would Johnson fight Bute?

I always understood they were pretty close buddies, their behaviour on Fight Camp 360 did little to suggest otherwise too.

On Pavlik, it's a pretty bizarre move - his confidence is obviously gone and he doesn't believe he can win. If he did he'd take the minimum $1.35 (which could quite easily end up nearly $2m) and subject to winning could be right back on top.

Taylor got a lot of **** at various times, but he was always willing to put himself back in the firing line.... there were easier fights out there than Froch to boost him back up, and he didn't have to enter the Super Six either.

Pavlik's run as ''champion'' was lousy, punctuated by the thrashing at the hands of Hopkins. Wonder if Calzaghe wishes he'd have stepped in instead...... the hype around KP at the time was unbearable.

"Pavlik at cruiserweight" is one thread I remember over on the General Forum.

I don't think being friends with someone would stop Johnson. Its a fight Showtime would buy.

I have always rated Taylor and respected him. If he comes back and gets a few wins under his belt give him a shot....until then no way.
