If Floyd beat Marquez at SFW or LW in dominant fashion, then that would be impressive. He didn’t. He beat him three weightclasses above Marquez’s ideal weight and four years off of his prime and STILL couldn’t put him away.

It was an appalling showing against such a small opponent.

 

It's not so much couldn't put him away, put that's neither here nor there...

 

Pacquiao is about to do the same thing though.

 

I think though, isn’t that part of the issue. It’s why I have no time for anyone arguing his greatness with “he’s never had to show what he can do!”

As Teddy Atlas said: if you’re in there with a guy who’s a few levels below you, you should be treating them like that, not coasting to a decision.

Great fighters want to prove their greatness, not simply demand it on the basis on some really lousy fights.

 

Irrelevant. Floyd outmatched him in every single way. Why not stop him and punctuate the performance? Because he isn't a great fighter and that was not a P4P performance, simply a rudimentary one. It'd be like Wlad pecking his way to a decision over someone like Hopkins.

And that’s a bad fight – but I can imagine Manny will be looking to blast Marquez out of there. I doubt we’ll see him pot-shotting and posing for round after round. Hell, even when Manny’s boring he’s entertaining.

At least Manny fought Marquez near his prime.

 

Obviously I should have included Mayweather. I just tend to forget he exists in the absence of him making meaningful matchups and retiring. He'd be second below Pacquiao, anyone that has him above Pacquiao is a genuine plank.

I rate Martinez although i think everyone got a bit carried away when he knocked out Paul Williams and thought he was the second coming. Floyd would be on the list if not for his inactivity. Rating Ward above Froch is ludicrous, Bradley should be no way near top tens.

 

How is rating Ward above Froch ludicrous exactly? On what basis? Ward dismantled Kessler and made him look an awkward Eurobot. Kessler beat Froch. If that isn't clear evidence, I really don't know what you're looking at. Thats just bias.
