First of all, anyone who thinks Martinez "Schooled" Pavlik is insane. All 4 of the HBO commentators (including Lampley, a Martinez nuthugger) thought the fight was close. Harold Lederman's card was good for me, except for I scored round 3 even and round 4 for Pavlik, so I had the fight 114-114. When I first saw the fight, I didn't think they would take the hometown fighter's title away. After round 4, Lederman said he had the fight a shut-out for Martinez based on "ring generalship" (a completely meaningless pair of words). Larry Merchant called it "bike riding". I also agree with all the commentators on their assessment of the knockdown: Pavlik didn't push down on Martinez - his arm was completely limp. I can agree with a one-point Martinez win, but I didn't see a schooling, not even a momentary one. The hometown champ should not have been stripped of his title for one point. A draw was the right thing to do.
Martinez did well early and late, pavlik did well inthe middle rounds where sergio usually takes a breather to come on strong late. I scored it 115-112 martinez, pretty clear to be honest. It would have been a disgrace had the decision gone pavliks way especially with cintron and williams 1 being controversial as well.
Any fight that is close can't be a robbery. Let alone calling it a draw. Robberies: Lara-Williams Holy-Lewis
I scored it a draw, but I could possibly understand giving round 3 to Martinez (a round I scored 10-10). But the 3-point margin was insane, and the champion was robbed of his title. Even if the champ deserves to lose by one point, he has historically been given the "benefit of the doubt".
It was the most egregious robbery since those corrupt judges handed Winky a win over Trinidad. Can't believe they took it from the hometown guy, despite the fact he wasn't at home.
thats ****ing bull**** right there. It shouldn't matter who the champ is, or where the fight takes place. If you have the challenger winning by a point at the end of 12 rounds you award him the fight and the championship. The whole "you have to TAKE the title from the champ" is ****ing crap.
this, its the same logic pascal used in the hopkins fight the first time, and it makes no sense at all.
Besides, round 9 could've been easily scored an 10-8 round as Martinez was clearly whooping Pavlik, making him almost quit the fight!! He screwed up 'cause he didn't double up the ****ing jab !! Interesting: Even Booradley and Hermit, the biggest Pavlik nuthuggers, made threads to take their hats of for Martinez after that fight!!
Oh my god. It was a close fight, but Martinez CLEARLY won... I mean for gods sake man.. LARA/WILLIAMS = ROBBERY PAVLIK/MARTINEZ = NOT
