He fought Katsidis for the interim WBO and WBA 135 titles. With JMM moving up he should, if not already has, become full champ. There was no need for an interim fight. JMM is/was the champ, end of story.

He will now fight Maidana for the WBA 140 title. With Khan unifying the WBA have enforced their stupid rule of Super Champ thus meaning another belt and another 3% sanctioning fee is available.

Bogus titles all over the shop.

What other examples are there of bogus belts further destroying the sport today?

I don't have much of a problem if there were 4 belts with no super champs, diamond champs, interim champs etc People would gun for a belt and then look to unify. Now adays there is so much politics about trying to not win a belt from the champ, avoiding mandatories etc

not really his fault though is it.

Him vs Katsidis and Maidana are good fight no matter what trinket they try and put on it.

Just see it as a fight between two top 10 guys and you will enjoy it.

The belts don't mean **** anymore. Guerrero is a good fighter though and Katsidis and Maidana are a good level of opposition, although both are one dimensional. I'd love to see Guerrero v Rios soon.

the annoying thing about Guererro is he never sticks around in a division long enough to dominate. Theres plenty of big fights out there for him but he keeps moving up.

True, I still find it crazy how the guy ever managed to fight at featherweight, he's massive even at lightweight, could easily see him up at 147.

The alphabets won't strip Marquez of anything until he comes out and categorically states that he's moving up permanently.

He generates more wonga than the rest, pretty much sums up their behaviour.

The WBC diamond belt. They made it up for the Pac V Cotto fight claiming it was "a historical recognition to the greatest boxers in the ring of today and the future." Only elite boxers could win it apparently.

Next thing you know,it's on the line when Morales is fighting Willie Limond..:blood

That was the 'Silver' belt, wasn't it?
They had the Diamond belt for Pascal vs Hopkins as well.

I'm seeing boxrec now showing the silver belt..:think

This is the original press release for the fight.
    http://boxingbb.com/printthread.php?tid=107

Morales goes for his 50th career win in the 12-round main event on “Mexican Fiesta” against WBU lightweight champion Willie “Hands of Steel” Limond (33-2, 8 KOs), of Scotland, for the vacant WBC Diamond Super Lightweight Championship.

They may have switched it at the last minute due to all the abuse they were taking :yep

Guerrero has achieved nothing over 3 weights. Decent enough operator, but grossly overrated IMO.

This thread isn't an attack on Guerrero. They are both quality fights. Just attacking the orgs.

It's not Robert's fault, he is a 2 weight champion, soon to be 3 weight world champion come the end of August!

Also very true, he has a lot of potential but his legacy is amounting to him being a good contender/weak titlist in each weight class. 135 with no JMM is there for the taking to establish a strong champ en route to 140.

Brandon Rios was the WBA 'Regular' Champion though so he is now the recognised champion with JMM moving up, I think. Although they will probably just leave JMM as 'Super' champion.

All these belts are bollocks anyway.

    It gets so confusing...

    Super WBA - JMM
    Regular WBA - Rios
    interim WBA - Guerrero

These guys are legit fighters, let em duke it out for 1 belt, 1 fight at a time. It devalues each mandatory.
