It's looking to be true folks. From over at the s c e n e:

Don King held a meeting with former two division champion Ricardo Mayorga, and Nicaragua's President Daniel Ortega Saavedra, to plan a potential November event in Managua to honor the late Alexis Arguello. The event would fall on a mid-November date, and IBF 154-pound champion Cornelius "K9" Bundrage has been mentioned as a possible opponent. Ortega spoke at length with King, swaping stories and discussing the importance of a sport like boxing to Nicaragua, which has had 10 world champions.

Along with Mayorga, other boxers who came to the meeting - Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez, who is the flyweight champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), and Juan Palacios, the reigning WBA minimumweight king, Jose Alfaro, who challenges Humberto Soto in a few weeks, and Adonis Rivas, Luis Perez and Eduardo Marquez, along with outstanding prospects like Carlos "Chocorroncito" Buitrago, who will fight next week in the U.S., and Rene Alvarado the national featherweight champion.

Love him or hate him Mayorga always puts on a show and an entertaining fight!

The greatest of all Nicaraguan fighters by far though was Alexis Arguello!

Pawel Wolak is also targeting K9 and just recently said on Twitter that talks are "heating up" for that particular fight on Dec. 3rd (Cotto-Margarito II undercard). Personally, I wouldn't mind either fight, though Wolak is obviously more deserving of the title shot. Either way, I'd pick both Mayorga and Wolak to dethrone K9, who I feel is one of the weakest title holders in the sport.

Mayorga is one of those guys that, if he comes into shape, can gauge a guy's ability and durability. I'd love to see him square off against Canelo someday.

I love Mayorga and find him hilarious but the guy has done nothing to deserve a title shot it's pathetic.

I agree with you mate, but let's be honest, when did deserving something mean much in boxing? There's title shots thrown around all over the place for people who haven't earned it.

Mayorga is still marketable (yes, with his mouth, but still), so this adds to his viability as a challenger. It's sad, but the way it is.

I do admit that I'm biased as there's a chance to see this fight live in Nicaragua for me though!
