:yep Fo' sure. His defence was breached seriously a few times, but for a mere pro novice it held up well against an ATG puncher and one of the most proficient offensive beasts of the last 20 years. Had Tito in trouble as well, and, despite taking some devastating combos and being dropped heavily, he showed intelligence to get himself together, managed to get back up every time and fired back once he got himself sorted.

I also felt he appeared a promising fighter with a savage K.O over dangerous veteran Simon Brown....in under ten pro fights :patsch

The man would've picked up so much experience from that fight as well. I stand by my claim that he would've beaten Vargas into oblivion.

2:55: One of the greatest moments of commentary I have ever heard! It happens all the time of course, an announcer predicting something by chance, but it's quality here  Reid was well behind in the final here, but what a shot!

It translated into the pro ranks, and with the skillset he demonstrated (with one dodgy eye already, let's be frank) I would not have bet against his chances against Oscar, Shane, Forrest, any of 'em.

A serious talent, and a tough kid to boot.

If I'm not wrong, Tito injured his other eye, or at least caused a different injury to the droopy eye.

He fought through the droopy eye (I think he said he was gonna' try and be done withint 20 fights) but the Tito fight finished him. And I think people say 'he was rushed, he wasn't ready'. He clearly was ready, he just suffered a freak injury.

But when he could sneak in a right hand he looked a potent offensive force. He negated it setting it up at times against Tito, but had sporadic success throughout the fight. I was impressed with him, and I think it's a real shame he never got a chance to build on the experience he would've gained in that fight against some different stylistic matchups. He seemed to have pretty much everything necessary to make a top level fighter.

That's not controversial, it's ****ing stupid

    Toney is massively overrated.

He lost easily twice to Montell Griffin ffs :patsch

He was hard to hit and had a granite chin, but had the footspeed of a three legged cow.

''But he's old school, he's old school....'':fire

    Truth :thumbsup

Mine - Floyd Mayweather is one of the worst linear welterweight champions of all time.

I remember talking about the Tito fight after scoring it in the 'what fight did you watch today' thread, and a few people (maybe jpab19?) mentioned that David Reid's career was always going to be a relatively short one due to the injury. He was a very talented fighter, so it's a shame that scenario was always looming over him. Like you've mentioned, he gave Tito big trouble. Probably the best 6 round job ever done on Trinidad, I had Reid 6 up after 6 (not everyone agree's with that, Rds 1 & 2 were close) with a KD and a point deduction in his favour. Without the injury to his eye, I very much doubt that any fighter in his division at the time could have came back from that deficit.

Amazing one punch ko in the olmpics alright, how often do you see a come from behind ko in an olympic final:D

He was obviously rushed during his career because of his eye, but for the most part he coped with it well.
