Marquez took 30k to fight John because sorry ass Arum low balled Marquez. Marquez contributed to the drama of their war, and was barely offered a raise for the rematch.
I agree with Kelly that it was shady for Dunkin and Top Rank to not tell him what he was making for this fight until the week of the fight, and given his past payouts, $50K is a big drop. However he might've really damaged himself by not following through with this fight. His opponent was not a threat and agree Kelly didn't deserve a huge payday for it, but he should've been a little more in the loop as to what he was making for this fight. On top of that, Kelly Pavlik hasn't been a dominant force in a couple years, certainly not deserving of a major payday.
I just don't how he thinks he is a bigger than Kessler. Bute,Ward,Froch are not bigger than Kessler. Kessler is like a rock star in Denmark.
He assured that he will never be offered a big fight again as no big network or credible promotional company will do business with him in the future. You call that smart?
if you consider having showtime waste ALOT of money promoting this, and within a week of fight, alot of money has been spent in production, as well as ticket sales, its a ****ing mess when you pull out of a fight within 7 days of it... if you think burning bridges is smart.... you sound like a complete idiot.... pavlik was pretty happy with the money he was getting until he caught wind of the kessler offer... its sour grapes and bad business and he hasnt won a big time fight sine J Taylor in 2008..unless you consider locket, rubio, lopez,, espino "BIG WINS" he has no leg to stand on in this situation
everyone says pavlik is the huge giant name that deserves more money...but yet hes not so huge that he will go throught 2 months of training camp and "not know what his pay will be?" i call bull**** on that
Smart decisions aren't just based on what happens in the short term. Even if he was getting short money for this fight, it is not a good idea to pull out of a fight (in your hometown no less) four days before it is to be fought. Showtime surely isn't happy, and HBO isn't going to pay him the type of money he wants unless he really shows better performances in the ring. Pissing off the fans, Top Rank, and Showtime isn't a good idea.
I am not a red neck, all I meant was that Pavlik is one of the only good white American fighters and I think it draws more attention to him then some other boxers.
