Bit of a ludacrus statement this IMO , Noguerra can box , Werdum has stand up skills of sorts , but he's a completely un'natural striker , and it shows in his technique , if you pitted these two in a kickboxing spar Noguerra would pick him apart . Noguerra is essentially in MMA terms a boxer , i still think Werdum is a one dimensional grappler , he is effective in MMA with his loose striking game because he is such a dangerous grappler as shown in the Overeem fight and numerous others where he's held his own against far superior strikers
Hendo has fought all but GSP in your top tier list. That in itself has to count for something. I mean this guy even fought Alan Goes (Another Carlson Protege) who nobody wanted to fight at the time and Hendo was just starting out. I dont have the full list but Id like to see it side by side with Big Nogs. I'm just mentioning this because there might be an oversight here even on my part, and that is maybe Hendo has the best resume in all of MMA.
Definitely on longevity, and with respect to the weight class, Nog didnt have the luxury of yoyoing divisions as a HW. But Hendo moved to 205 from 185 in both the UFC & SF because he couldnt beat either of the Champs there at the time And I dont think his resume edges Big Nog's imo. The only guy Nog didnt beat in his prime was Fedor, and he went through hell to achieve his other victories as the punches took their toll. As I pointed out, Hendo failed to beat Anderson, Shields and Jackson. Not a criticism, but if he had beaten just 1 of these guys, that may have given him the push over Nog
Hendo doesn't have the best resume in MMA. Also, Nog's is better IMO. The only guys to beat him before he became past-prime were Fedor (GOAT), Barnett (avenged) and Hendo (avenged). His top wins include peak Crocop, Barnett (imo #4 hw oat), Kharitonov, Coleman, Sapp, Werdum, Sylvia, Ricco Rodriguez, Herring, Goodridge, Schilt, and more. I think Big Nog has a legitimate argument for best resume ever in MMA, along with guys like GSP and Fedor. I don't view Hendo as quite being comparable in that regard, JMO.
Hendo probably has the best record in terms of people he's fought namewise. I mean Fedor Big Nog x 2 A Silva W Silva x 2 Rampage Little Nog Franklin Arona Vitor is an 11 fight murderers row and for a second batch of opponents Palhares Feijao Bisping Goes Newton Bustamante x2 Misaki x2 Ninja Yvel Babalu Shields would be a pretty amazing career for anyone else on their own.
Yes but quality of resume isn't only about who you fought, wins and losses are both important in evaluating how good the resume is. Jeremy Horn has fought: Dan Severn Frank Shamrock Chuck Liddell x2 Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Ricardo Arona x2 Randy Couture Forrest Griffin Renato Sobral Chael Sonnen x3 Anderson Silva Nate Marquardt Court McGee Matt Lindland Thales Leites Jorge Santiago Dean Lister x2 Gilbert Yvel Rousimar Palhares Trevor Prangley David Loisieau Elvis Sinosic If resume was only about competition fought, Horn would be one of the top fighters ever.
Being the undisputed best p4p fighter at his best & fighting mostly LHWs when he was a quite small MW himself... I dont want to hear that fighters are much better now because a lot of the fighters back then are still good fighters today despite being further past their best. Georges has never even tested MW despite being able to cut thru the welters like they are nothing & Anderson walks around heavier than the LHW limit, has run out of challengers at MW & still wont step up to the most talent packed division (LHW) to test himself except for those 2 fights vs Griffin & that bum (cant remember his name.) Pound for pound ability & domination of an era are important, Sakuraba was thee man at his best.
My tier one is (in order of debut) Frank Shamrock, Randy Couture, Anderson Silva, Matt Hughes, Fedor Emelianenko and Georges St. Pierre.
I believe Nogueira has the best resume in MMA bar none. While Fedor twice bettered him his other losses were SD's that were avenged via a UD and a submission. Coleman, Cro Cop, Herring, Kharitonov were all beaten by Nogueira before they fought Fedor. Hes also brilliant at finishing. Look at how many of his wins he got the stoppage in. Also the guy comparing his standup to Werdum, they fought in PRIDE and Nogueira was utterly dominant on the feet even dropping him which Nogueira isnt really known for. All the while not afraid to go to the ground with a better bjj artist.:bbb
Liddell, Cro Cop and Shogun are all greater than Saku....better resume than Saku....AND Saku overall ability wasn´t that good in my opinion, a great grappler but a terrible, really terrible striker...
Good point....But Cro Cop and Liddel are very good defensive grapplers....Shogun too...very decent jiu-jitsu...
