Bat always put the Calzaghe fight as a comparing stick. I wonder what was the numbers when he was in the S6 against Ward and Froch. I'm not saying they were better or worst, I dont know them. But, I'm pretty sure it wasnt 5M garantee plus 100% of tv rights. So maybe Kessler did that against Calzaghe, and I'm happy for him. But I dont think anyone can give him that kind of money right now.

Most of these posters just pick numbers straight outta their asses. Good on Kessler if he can generate so many millions in Denmark. INTERBOX actually called their bluff about them wanting to fight Bute, by allowing them to keep all that Danish money (A Few millions according to Nordic Euros on the board.).

They certainly can't guarantee a purse of a few millions to Kessler + all his TV money, when they don't even know if they'll make over 3.75 in total with North American revenues....

The Calzaghe fight was fought in a stadium filled with tens of thousands and it implicated a market reach of many millions of fans. They were sure of generating many more millions from TV because their markets are much bigger.

Bute doesn't garner any interest outside Quebec which is a small market. If it wasn't for a decent gate, Interbox wouldn't generate much on their own..... That's what these clowns have to understand.

the fight with Calzaghe was at prime time and when a fight takes place in Canada thats around 5am or something in Denmark.. i doubt too many of them would pay $100 or what it usually is in Denmark to watch that fight at 5am
    that offer is a joke

The same problem applies for Romanian TV when Bute fights in Quebec, but they usually do rather good numbers. Not as good as they would in the evening, but romanian TV keeps buying the fights, so I guess they don't lose money...

Since Showtime is putting 2M in this, I dont think they would want the fight to be in Europe prime time anyway. So again, nobody proved that it was a lowball offer yet. All that people proved here is that Kessler did make more money in other fights.

But people still get up in the middle of the night to watch the fight. If they are willing to pay for the fight when it's in the evening, why wouldn't they be willing to pay for it during the night. The only difference is that they have to get up at 4AM to watch it. So the fight being on PPV or regular TV doesn't change anything about the willingness of the fans to get up during the night.

What does that have to do with anything that was discussed?

Kessler is definitely the B side with Bute. Btwn with joe it was clash between two undefeated fighters. This was this first time I started watch this lowest tier division. That being said I think he deserved at least 1m. I also would like to see a credible source. I could say he offered him $10m plus all Europe . . . that does not make it so

Keep in mind that Kessler and Calzaghe fought after Calzaghe had demolished Lacy and Kessler had destroyed Beyer. To make a comparison this would be like if Bute knocked Kessler the **** out in 3 rounds, and then Ward takes Froch to school and makes him look like a *****... and then Ward and Bute fight each other in a stadium.

That's what Calzaghe vs Kessler was like. An epic fight anticipated by the entire world. I was pumped as a mutha****a for that fight!!!!

Most people agree that had Kessler took the fight with Bute, he'd have made between 2.75 and 4 mil. Taking home about 1.75 for himself.

Instead he's taking on Steiglitz, which is said to only be worth between 1.25 and 2 mill for him, taking home about 750K.

IDK, but if I'm Mikklel, I KTFO Steiglitz, make my 750K with EASE, building my bargaining power with Bute, then going back to the table and probably drawing 50% more $$$, especially if Bute is coming off a big win over Johnson, Dirrel, Ward or Froch.

Makes sense for Kessler from a business standpoint.

I agree that taking the Stieglitz fight is the smart business decision for Kessler. The only thing I'm pissed off about as a Bute fan is that Kessler fighting Stieglitz leaves Bute without a top level opponent once again.

Pavlik is the one who done that.

You know Bute is the #1 SMW on the planet.
Ward, likely being # 2, follwed closely by Froch and Kessler IMO. But just after them is Johnson, Dirrel, Abraham, Steiglizt, Pavlik etc. These guys are so close skillwise that aside from Bute, the rest of the division is basically pickem fights depending on styles.

So long as Bute keeps beating top 10 opposition, eventually the other guys are gonna have to go through him. Soon, all roads will lead to BOOTAY!:good
