I'd agree with most of those predictions. Conlon will definitely meet stiff competition again. Fancy Hickey to do well again at 64. JJJ will once again have a lot to say at 69. Apparently turner does well on the international stage but mcmonagle has the edge on him in the domestic scene. Cummings is 20 as far as i know. Was very unlucky to lose to o'neill in the seniors. Tommy mccarthy mite be in with a shout at 91. He has probably filled into the weight a bit more since rushing the move to heavyweight before the seniors. I wonder how good Davy Joyce at 81kg is? He wasn't exactly hammered by joe ward as far as i can remember in the seniors. Then again, as we said, ward has come on leaps and bounds even since then

I was down in the peoples republic of cork today and since I was in the free state I picked up a copy of the Irish Mirror and lo and behold that relentless workhorse Stapleton had a wee piece in on Brian Magee. Johnny was at the airport for Magees return - keen as mustard that lad is. Good stuff!

Ive also heard Egan is looking good, and I'm sure he won't like be out of the spotlight for long and the lose to ward was probably the kick up the arse he needed. In saying that though I'd go one further than u and say it wouldn't surprise me if ward stopped him, had him down twice in there last fight and has improved since. Also it's worth saying that Billy Walsh and the other aiba boys are big fans of Egan as he showed loyalty to them by not turning pro and was probably on a promise of another olympics not realising there was a 14 year old beast lying in wait.

Young Joyce and/or Forde could cause a surprise here too, will be interesting, very interesting. And what will they do if Barnes or Nevin were to get edged out or injured???

Matt when you say Joyce/Forde are you referring to Davy Joyce at 81kg and Kieran Forde at 64kg?

It seems unclear what they will do if say barnes or nevin were to get edged out. It seems to be an ambiguous situation and everyone has their own theories (many believing that the iaba have their favourites). Ultimately I assume an announcement will have to be made before the box-offs regarding what they actually stand for.

Would you give McCarthy any chance at 91kg?

Wasnt Davy Joyce the fella Joe Ward outpointed 8-2 in the semis of the national championships this year?

Yep that's right. He's actually young enough too; about 19 i think. Was apparently injured for about a year and came back and won the under 21s and inters. He won a bronze at the worlds where jamie kav and ray moylette medalled. I know ward outpointed him but i think he's worth the mention. Maybe he had a lot more room for improvement at the time of the seniors. Another six months could have made a big difference, especially after such a long lay off. I could be a mile off....he might get hammered; just said i'd mention him anyway.

Fairly sure the tickets arent starting at 45 but 45 across the board which means you could in theory get a ringside seat for 45 uros which would be great value. That said if you were trapped at the back the value wouldnt be great,Get there early and the price would be ok.

Wouldn't think 45 euros would get you a ringside ticket. I paid 70 euros for ringside ticket for the Dolphil show last christmas.

45 Euros is steep. I wouldn't begrudge the boxers the money. Most of them are on tight enough money as it is. However for the average punter it is steep when compared to the GAA matches etc. Even the Republic of Ireland soccer matches are great value (Season ticket works out at 27 euros per match).
