Macklin turns down Sturm rematch

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by BremnerBomber, Aug 4, 2011.

  1. Britain's Matthew Macklin has turned down the chance of a re-match against WBA middleweight title-holder Felix Sturm in November, the German world champion's manager Roland Rebak tells German daily newspaper Die Welt. The pair's first bout in June ended with Sturm winning a split decision.

Perhaps holding out for better terms and hopefully a neutral venue. A rematch in MSG gardens would be ideal.

He might be waitin to see how Barker does against Martinez and hope for the winner of that ?

I honestly thought he was robbed of the decision against Sturm, but in a rematch I think Sturm would stop him, once Sturm started letting his hands go in the later rounds he outclassed Matt at times, he had him out on his feet in the last 10 seconds and in a rematch he would put his foot on the gas a lot earlier.

Probably due to his recent signing with DiBella. Probably wants Martinez, and I can't say I blame him. Sturm-Macklin II would have been good, though.

I have to say that Macklin not taking the rematch looks a bit anatidae-ish to me

I wonder if its the same 'unfair' options that he signed for in the first place and would be held to if he had gotten the decision
