Amir Khan - potential to be the greatest British boxer of all time?

I certainly think he has it in him. Early days yet but with Freddie as his trainer and youth on his side and even his record so far on top of how much better he looks each fight.
I really think his potential is limitless.

I'd also out of interest like to ask who people rate as the top 5 greatest British Boxers?

 

Could he be better than Jimmy Wilde and Lennox Lewis? Erm, no.

I'd agree with this, has to avoid Mayweather next year though. Not old enough and still would school him.

 

Ok for starters he doesn't look much better each fight. He won on points but he got pummelled in the Maidana fight. And that was a fight where he had Maidana badly hurt in the first round and Khan didn't gas himself out.

Secondly, he then looked pretty average against an admittedly woeful McCloskey. Then his next fight after that he puts in the same kind of performance against an equally negative opponent, only this time finishing the fight with a lowblow rather than a headbutt.

His potential certainly isn't limitless.

That said, he's still a very good boxer, deserves a lot of credit for the way he's come back in the last 2 years and could someday be rated very highly. Not the greatest of all time, but potentially up there.

Or Jack Berg, Ted Lewis or Jim Driscoll.

If you think Khan can surpass the 'greats' of British boxing, why don't you tell me who they are? A top 5 or 10 maybe?

 

I think a lot of people are failing to realise what potential is.... He probably is one of the best British 24 year olds of all time.

So maybe he will become one of the best, I've yet to see anyone come close to 'outboxing' him, i.e. The way he dominated 'slick/technical' boxers such as Judah, Pauli and Kotelnik. His trouble will always be against punchers but I can probably only think of 2 boxer that could 'outbox him' i.e. win a UD against Khan.

 

In what way is Paulie either slick or technical?

I'd say pressure fighters are more of a threat. Look at the trouble he had against Maidana.
