Would a ray leonard victory have kept thomas hearns out of the picture for a few years. I can see the course of history being seriously altered

Its was the cuevas KO that made the demand for a srl v TH showdown. Without that KO Tommy would not have been as in demand

Rays prime would of probably lasted longer. We may have got Leonard V CUrry or starling. The Hagler fight may have happened in the early 80's

SRL KO 4 Cuevas......... Cuevas too slow and predictible for the much more skilled and slicker Leonard...... SRL pop-shots Cuevas at will from the outside while Cuevas lunges and zings fierce hooks that miss by a mile..... Mismatch........

I think everyone agrees that SRL wins. The question is how it would have affected Thomas Hearns and ray leoanrds career

I dont see SRL smoking Cuevas. I see him turning on the style late (after fighting cautiously in the early mid rounds)

Cuevas was easy to hit...... Even a blind man could find Cuevas' jaw........ With Ray's speed and combo's along with power at 147, Cuevas is rolled inside 5 rds......

Cuevas of 1980 would've been better off fighting the smaller Duran, but even Duran at a lean "Montreal" type of machine would kill Cuevas as he did in 1983.....

Cuevas was ****ed once 1980 occurred and dude's like, "SRL, Hearns & Duran" broke into the spotlight at 147...

    NOTE:

Cuevas choked against Stafford in '81 and lost a dec.... Stafford was very ordinary; nothing special..... I remember Curry waxing Stafford inside 1 round..... Curry warmed-up in the back as Stafford was on his knee's doing all that praying ****.....

I thought Stafford was a pretty good fighter at the time. Most people were surprised Curry took him out in only one round.

SRL was scheduled to KO Stafford in May 1983, but Ray's eye surgery cancelled the fight on HBO.... Lucky for Stafford...

Stafford nowadays is rolling in a chair after taking a few caps in his back by some ghetto homies...... WTF?

This would have been a master class performance for SRL. Imagine..maybe 3 or 4 rounds at the most..Leonard would have ko'ed him..a tko probably.

I think everyone (who knows boxing and isnt blinded by hatred for srl) about the outcome

How would it have affected history?

It would have glossed Leonard's place in boxing history even more...and I truly think that Cuevas would have been as comprehensively destroyed as he was vs Hearns.

How would it affect tommy. without that Cuevas win, he would nto have got into the picture as quickly for a ray leonard bout

A complete mismatch in favour of Leonard. Ray was too young, fast and simply better.

Ray may not have hit harder than Hearns, but I think he was a lot closer in that regard than people think. With his speed and accuracy, man could just plain punch.

    Leonard TKO4

I think he'd have affected Hearns career primarily financially...He'd have been in a far weaker bargaining place for the Leonard fight, and would have had to sign for a bit less cash, possibly pushing the Leonard fight out another 6-12 months.

I don't think it affects a ton more than that. Hearns, and Leonard, were on missions, and a collision course. They'd have hit, and they were always going to, and what happens after is seperate and distinct and likely wouldnt have changed at all.

Leonard said on CBS TV he would fight Cuevas....then he walked.

There is a reason why the fight didn't come off in June 1980.

Leonard-Cuevas not happening had absolutely nothing to do with Leonard attempting to avoid the fight, you old bag of crust. They agreed to fight and even had a date set(not the incorrect one that you provided, either) before Cuevas pulled out citing the need to allow a cut sustained in his last fight to heal.

Doesn't take a genius to figure out where the organization of which Cuevas was a champion of was based, who the people running that country at the time were and who their most notable sporting star was.

...and there was I thinking a total Dickhead Free thread had appeared in Classic for the 1st time since 2006. Barkley-Van Horn was competitive compared to what this would have been.
