Was it cos of his earlier association with tyson? His links to Sammy Gravano? Guiding Moorer was his defining moment but what got him in the picture for that job
I'm guessing the Tyson connection helped get his name out there. The funny thing about his work with Moorer is Moorer didn't even listen to him. All this attention was paid to how Atlas was pleading and screaming at him during the Holyfield fight, then Moorer would go out and fight the same way he had been. He finally decided to let his hands go more....in the 12th. Moorer didn't listen to Teddy against Foreman and got KOd. I still think a reason why Moorer was so passive against Holyfield was because of how he got dropped in the 2nd. A big difference from how he fought after being hurt against Stewart and Cooper.
Atlas has been around for over 30 years. He trained several fighters in multiple title bouts. He always gave a good interview before and after fights and is based in the east coast. So, an established, recognizable, personable guy based in ESPN's preferred market area was a natural fit.
He almost assassinated mike tyson and his mafia uncle still have Mr. Tyson on their hit list. He also got in a knife fight and has a nice scar on his face, in addition he took Michael Moorer's stool in between a round. Harsh? Tell me then. What is Teddy Atlas known for other then Tyson? Can he box, or is he known for his training, or promotion? :huh
