NATHAN CLEVERLY is aiming to snatch Amir Khan's self-proclaimed 'Best in Britain' title. Khan named himself No.1 last month and followed it up with a knockout victory over Zab Judah to add the IBF light-welterweight belt to his WBA title. But 24-year-old Cleverly said: "Amir's definitely got a point. he's won his world title, beat some top-class, dangerous guys and just won a unification fight for another version of the title. "he's not one of these guys who do all the talking but can't back it up and I respect that. "he's probably the top British boxer at the moment but I want to challenge him for that mantle. "In the next couple of years I want to be right up there and This content is protected the big American names, in big fights and unifying titles." Next up for the WBO lightheavyweight holder is a showdown with bitter rival Tony Bellew, probably in October. This content is protected
Carl Froch is actually the most respected British fighter at present. His resume speaks for itself. Khan is 2nd
Yep a defence of Clev's paper title against a British level opponent will prove he's one of the best in Britain :good
I like Cleverly bit ge better **** the **** up and wind his neck in. Froch will show him what being the number 1 is. I fear for Nathan if they ever squared off! In the next 3-4years anyway but Frank will try and wait for Froch to be on the slide and for his.punch resistance to start fading before he let them get it on.
i think he is right about khan being number one, alot would argue froch is, but khan is in a much strronger division...
Can't blame Cleverly for wanting to follow in Khans footsteps. He makes a shitload compared to Froch and Carl didn't get a title shot till he was in his 30's.
