Fenech also had his own set of excuses after the rematch. I just take both on face value, hard as they are to understand.

Fenech claims he could hardly walk to the ring before the fight as his doctor ****ed up his dosage for his allergy shots or something along those lines.

It's also said Jeffrey was rooting girls non stop in the fights lead up and neglecting his training as he thought he'd walk through Azumah on home soil.

Whether or not that's true I'm not sure as Fenech was usually a fanatical trainer.

    Hey Griffo!

Exactly, both fights are clouded. I just assume Fenech fought a sensational first fight against perhaps a Nelson a bit off and vice versa. My only gripe is they should be 1-1 for their efforts, but Jeff's got a lot of milage out of the robbery as often happens.

I hope it all goes well with the ear mate but at least you'll have a bit more time to post on here which is good for the rest of us.

Yeah the Rooster has been quiet for a bit (like yourself) but he seems to be back from wherever he's been and as out there as ever. Maybe he's decided to come back now that he's seen your return, sort of as the yin to your yang :yep

Fenech-Nelson I stank of horse ****, an incredbily poor decision. Even if someone did have it close, it's clear who won the most rounds. One of my most disappointing moments watching boxing was when Azumah totally dismantled him in the rematch. Poor Jeff. That decision really affected him.

The scene at the end of the first fight where he's in tears, when asked about a rematch: "Fight now". Really sad. But when you sign up to the "Don King Circus", that what just might happen.

There's two other draws that compete with this for general shittyness those being Lewis-Holyfield 1 and Whitaker-Chavez.

The common denominator's are Don King's involvement and Don Kings fighter of the time seemingly being favoured by the draw.

His malevolent influence was a blight on boxing in the 90's.

Yep. For Jeff's tears, see Pernell's wry smile, which said "I knew they'd do this to me". Not being wise after the event, but I never ever thought Whitaker-Chavez would be much of a contest in terms of who the outright winner would be. I was super-confident Whitaker would school and baffle him. So, I suppose I was wrong (officially). :yep

This is easily my favourite boxing magazine cover of all time*. It says it all, it's brilliant...

    * Apart from Greg Page saying "Holmes is a Chicken-liverered coward" in Ring 1983 of course. :yep

    Classic

Not boxing related but that compares with my all time favourite headline that appeared on the front page of the Sun newspaper when Elton John got married to that woman in 1986......
    "Congratulations Poof"

****ing English tabloids may be scummy but they can be funny on occasion as well.:D

One of my fave English newspaper headlines concerns boxing actually. Not sure who it was off the top of my head (perhaps The Times) but it was after Bruce Woodcok KO'd Lee Oma in what looked like a dive, the crowd pelted the ring with coins and fruit etc. The headline the next day:

    "Oma...Coma...Aroma"

Yeh it is worth more, its worth another watch, funny as hell when Zarate tags him and runs away.

    You think?

I think if he got the decision his stock would have went through the roof, first 4 weight champ.

Well he's seen by all and sundry (except the rare clown and King's three blind mice) as the winner and garnered a huge amount of sympathy and media attention. Trouble was he didn't back it up and win the rematch.

Maybe with a win he wouldn't have lost form/motivation overnight, who knows.

Hearns was the first 4 weight champ 4 or 5 years before Nelson and Fenech fought. Ray Leonard, rightfully or wrongfully also achieved the honor well before the Nelson fight.
