This is a great post.MAB mixed it up with Hamed several times during the fight and was tagged with some big shots. It was just the case of a great fighter beating up a good fighter.

I agree, Hamed was a shot fighter at that stage but still a good fighter.

McKinney was never close to being an elite fighter, either, and only a moron(or a Mexican) would consider him a greater win than Hamed.

And yes,it does denigrate Barrera's record, because it's still regarded as his trademark win and performance. If that opponent was nothing but a hypejob, then Barrera should get very little credit for it.Can't have it both ways.

He fought Hamed the way that he did because it was clearly the safer and more intelligent option.Even when Barrera did actually hurt him,he still never pressed for a stoppage or put himself in harms way.Compare that to jumping on Morales whenever he had him rocked and initiating wild, ferocious exchanges.

    Trademark win :rofl

yes the Hypejob hamed win defined his career WAIT WTF?

Defining win was Morales............ beating up this well known hypejob was a good win because of all the hype he carried from his akward style and demolishing bums, and Barrera just humiliated him...and broke his heart never to return to the sport of boxing ...

I think a lot of people let emotion get in the way of their judgement regarding this fight. Hamed was a polarising figure so its to be expected.

Whats clear is that the Prince that fought Barrera was a shell of his former self. He had lost his love for the game, very ill prepared (watch the build up), had no discipline, didnt listen to his corner, had some pathetic management around him, 2 coaches alternating in his corner etc and so forth

Hamed didnt even flip over the rope for the first time. Even when he lost he seemed lacking in enthusiasm or emotion as if he expected it. Its not something Id see from such an exciting charasmatic fighter.

I still maintain if Hamed had the heart and the discipline to take the sport seriously, he would have whooped Barrera in a rematch. This exceptionally poor spectacle from him still only had him beat by 3 points.. Barrera was primed in this fight btw.

I dont see this demotion of Naseem as people claim. Maybe its because people waited so long for Hamed to be humbled, or expected so much from him due to hype. Its also the fact that it ultimately ended his career. Another reason is the classic scenes in this fight, Barrera pushing Hamed into the turnbuckle or the punches from barrera seeming more photogenic then they were because hamed was jumping and flopping all over trying to avoid them.. Whatever it was, it wasnt such a shutout as many here say

Boxers always make excuses when they loose. Thing is, if Hamed could have beat the elite guys he should have trained hard and done so. He was a great talent, exciting, spectacular -but when he stepped up his opposition he got in trouble more than once and when he REALLY stepped up, he got beat by a better man. That's the brass tax and everything else is just talk.

I beg to differ; while Hamed was a great athlete and had big power, he just didn't have the technical refinement of a truly elite boxer - and that was the difference against Barrera. The truly top guys would beat Hamed imo, unless he had improved on how he was in his prime - and he didn't have it in him to do that. Sad, but that's the way it is.

a broken nose in return for destroying hameds psyche and finishing his career off ?

Sure i'd take that trade - Marco did and it worked out well for him , Hamed ended up obese and going to jail .

Guess who got the better deal ?
