Fighters who's careers were derailed after facing Bernard Hopkins.

That's the Hopkins Slappy White was ducking. Anyone who thinks Slappy Joe would beat this BHOP is on crack.:yep

 

Winky was robbed against Hopkins so I dont see how Hopkins derailed him. WInky went out of the spotlight because HBO kept low balling him and offering him fights to make him fodder to some rising prospect.

 

Too early to say, I think Pascal will be ok.

 

BHop has a shitty record and he also employed way too many bull**** tactics such as blatant headbutts, blows to the back of the head, fake low blows and shots to the back of the head, jump out of the ring ala kermit and fake injury.

Calzaghe is his daddy. A "white boy". Rofl.

 

Tito was derailed, but it was his own fault for moving up to a weight division he never belonged in. He should have stayed at Welterweight.

 

Somebody post the Calzaghe highlight reel next to BHOPs for grins and giggles.

one could argue that hopkins convinced calzaghe to never box again. it's happened before (Lewis-Vitali)

 

Titos career wasnt mess up by Hopkins at all. It was more of personal and marriage problems, which Tito recently admitted he was going through in his Hopkins fight which he commited adultery and had a child with another women at the time. His training was far from what it was and even taking weeks off even before 9/11 occur.

He quit the fight game because he had asthma. His son attends Michigan. And apparently he's planning on training local talent.

 

Most fighters ruin or derail their career once they lose focus and hunger for the sport. Simple as that and you could ask that to any former fighter/boxer.

 

This could be said for a lot of top shelf fighters. Of course somebody's getting derailed when you lose your championship like Tarver and Pascal did. A loss ALWAYS hurts you one way or another. This could be said for Mayweather, Pacman and Calzaghe just to name a few recent examples but why do I never hear about them?

I think Tarver was the same lethargic but skilled fighter afterwards as well. More slowed down, sure, but lets not forget Tarver wasn't exactly a spring chicken either.

Pavlik, sure, I could buy that. Let's not forget he had alcohol problems even before that fight that contributed as well though. His slowing down considerably both of feet and hands doesn't have anything to do with the mental aspect for example - more like bad traning and habits.

Taylor, like Tarver, fought pretty much the same after facing Hopkins. I don't agree he could have done much more than he has. The Froch and Pavlik beatings are what devastated Taylor, because he looked scared and strange against the limited Abraham.

Pascal remains to be seen so we could neither say this nor that. He fought the same stupid way in the second fight though so no real signs of getting deranged after the first. My guess is he will still be the same explosive, power-punching burst fighter who gasses after six rounds. And don't forget - we already knew that Pascal was limited (see Froch)

Trinidad I could buy too, but not Wright. In Wright's case it was more a matter of his inflated opinion of his own worth. That fight was close btw so if anyone did Winky in it was himself because he's such a bad loser.

Seems like the ones exposed was Trinidad and Pavlik - both who were getting reps as fearsome punchers and who had that aura that must have felt terrible to lose. Thay got above their best weight and got schooled by the bigger man.

This is no taking away from the fact that Hopkins DOES get inside his opponents' heads both before and during a fight and that he'll show you up if you're technically deficient in some way. I just don't like that myths are created around him that can be applied to other fighters as well.

Mercado was a decent fighter, once he lost to Nard he was never the same again.

Hopkins beats them in a way where he makes you feel inferior in every way. So when that fighter starts training again he will have this lingering though "No matter how hard I train, I will never be better than Bernard Hopkins"

And thats a dangerous thought to have when preparing for a fight

 

Add Howard Eastman a top #1 MW contender became a bum after Hopkins loss. William Joppy was never the same either.

 

Taylor was definitely never the same after there two fights. Against Spinks and Ouma he didnt look as good as he did before the Hopkins fight and some even had Spinks winning. I thought Winky won 116-112 and then the Pavlik fight is was a wrap after that. He had that one last great preformance left in his vs Froch but he only had it for 11 rounds and it wasnt enough.
