Will have to get hold of another copy. Don't think I have a copy left for myself... bare with me, I'm always in a hurry when it comes to sending things out... HI LEON.
Ceddy was Ray's older brother and a lot smaller than him. I trained with both of them. Ray fought for a while as Ricky "Flash" Johnson. He would win a main event on Friday and be biting people for money on Monday. Ceddy would get behind in a fight and pull out claiming "stomach cramps" which caused a fair bit of mirth around the gym.
Bloody Hell Ewan McGrady!!! Thats a name i've not heard mentioned in a while!! What a bag load of talent he was, heads and shoulders my favourite player when i was in primary school and never forgotten in my eyes. Always wondered what happened to him, seemed to just drop off the face of the planet :good:good:good
got a mate who ****n loved ewan.he gota nsw jumper with mcgrady on the back even though he didnt get picked:rofl:rofl
Remember the Kid well wasted talent for sure and just headed down the wrong path,Hector Thompson was a World Class Fighter had one of the hardest punches I have ever seen, the first Boxer to die in the ring was Roko Spanja remember there was a lot of publicity about him bringing his young family out to Aus definately affected Hector. Some time later there was Chuck Wilburn who became the second fighter to lose his life in the ring against Thompson both were tragedies and you could see in the fights after that Hector was hesitant you would sware he was pulling his punches, one of the all time greats Hector have great memories of Him.!!!!
It is true Ray McGrady did die in Narrabri Hospital from a ruptured spleen. He did enjoy a drink but was far from an alcoholic. He went by both names Widdy (his Father) and Ceddy (his brother) because he was to young to offically fight. This information is fact because I have just spent the last 8year living Ceddy. The very talented McGrady family is also know for there guitar playing and sing. Ceddy was once nominated for best new talent which was only one of 7 nomination in Tamworth Country Music Festival. He can still be heard singing around the traps and is a regular at the Central Coast music festival and the Lakes Hotel at The Enterance. Yaahoo :happy
Would love to get some old TV Ringside footage of some of Ceddy McGrady's fights if anyone call point me in the right direction. He is turning 60 soon would be a hoot to surprise him.
To my understanding (which may be wrong), Channel 7 owns the rights to ringside boxing. Hopefully some other posters on this forum can lend their experience and service to this cause.
I will tell you how to go about it. I noticed after going through his record he fought on Channel 0 now 10 He fought at GTV Channel 9 and he fought on TVN 9 he also fought on Channel 7 in Brisbane. The tapes at channel 7 in Melbourne were evidently taped over so I don,t think you will have any luck there but there was a bloke in Melbourne called Bob Duigan not sure of spelling. Who had all the fights from Ringside you will get the correct spelling out of an old Fighter Magazine he will have them if you can find him. Now go through his record get the dates he fought on above mentioned channels contact the Archives department and let me know how you go. Cheers
