No, I would say Langford was just as hard of a p4p puncher. People just get mad about Fitz being pitted against heavies in h2h matches- and people defending him in said threads. There's no reason to be salty about it otherwise.
I would find it silly had he not been successful against heavies of all sizes. I don't expect anyone to favor Fitzsimmons over modern heavies, i just wish he'd get the respect he deserves for being such a badass.
your critizing him for struggling at the age of 45, using it as a case for him being overrated, well going by that logic, Ali's overrated for his loss to Spinks at 38 & Berbick at 40.
I agree. he may have been a great heavy (for the time) and a legend but he never did enough to warrant being an ATG. Not fightin black guys (for whatever reson) goes against him
I rate fitz as the goat. Just thought i'd get that out there as it seems to be topical on this thread. My answer would actually be leonard, and I say this from experience since I still remember being a casual fan and thinking sugar ray leonard was the greatest in history and I remember other casual fans agreeing with me. It wasn't until I studied the sweet science more that I realised how far from the truth that was. I think ray is between 25 and 15 now and I find it ridiculous I ever had him number 1.
Ali. Too many were robbed of wins by judges agianst him, he fought dirty was allowed to hold so much it was ridiculous. Duran, was great, but not greatest ever in division, and what he did in second Leonard fight was a disgrace. His comeback after that is overrated, Davey Moore was in his 8th fight and had title, and was forced to fight while sick. Hearns blew him out, an dhe dogged it aginst Hagler. Hagler. If someone like Monzon fought on tv as much as Hagler did they would be ranked higher than Hagler.
Erik Morales- completely dominated and exposed by the one and only slick fighter he ever fought Raheem. Got a gift decison over Espadas and then quit against Pac in the early rounds.
Yes, you and the other 0.1% of the universe who watched the fight. :yep Did anyone reporting on the fight actually have Duran ahead? I can't recall any, even Stevie Wonder, who was special guest at ringside, scoring for Motown Puglista Monthly had Hagler ahead. Heck, even someone had Escalera beating Everett!!! That's how obvious a decision Hagler over Duran was.
