I agree, although Vitali DOES NOT have another career that needs tending to. This delay in his training is just an effort to draw attention to his countrymen's plight.

While he should use his title as a stage to promote his dissension he seems to be using his potential delay of his defense to show his countrymen that he stands behind them and he values his people more than he does his title.

If Vitali has some political commitments, that's fair enough.

Personally though, if he feels that's more important than boxing, he needs to make a choice.

It's an easy choice, how does a SPORT ever compare to a national political crisis?

    Great.

Let's see him retire to be on hand to help his country with political issues.

IDK.....Vitali is serious about the Orange revolution, of which, his female friend is a leader of.

I guess it's kinda like the new american tea party movement, except there are no good america athletes who promote it. And I can't think of any who would forgo their championship matches to voice their dissension of one leaders arrest. For all he KNOWS the woman "might" be guilty of the alleged crimes.

Cool story, but we just don't care. It's boxing board, not some damn political one. If he's boxer then he should box, instead he's minaudering to pictures with some Ukrainian fanboys. That's how I see it.

Jesus. If an opposition leader in your country was arrested for political reasons, then that's an attack on the foundation of democracy. Vitali as a citizen and would be politician has every right to be concerned and try to help where he can. Boxing must take a backseat for a while. Stripping champions never led to anything good.

They could give the belt to someone who's more interested in boxing???

I'd say that would be pretty good.

It looks like there has been a political crisis in Ukraine for many years. You Ukrainians have too strong connections with Russia and too many Russian citizens in the East Ukraine to be a fully independent country.

I have never been to Ukraine, but from what I see it looks like West and East Ukraine are too different countries.

Lennox Lewis didn't have a problem holding onto his WBC title while only fighting once a year. Hell... Lewis only fought 1 time in his last 20 months as Champion.

Vitali's protest is not going to singlehandedly diffuse this situation. There are competent lawyers and ambassadors lobbying on her behalf.

Vitali's best position to aid in her defense and to bring attention to the crisis in his homeland would be in the US sporting news, and during promotion of this fight, of which, I have seen NONE.

Agreed. It's bad enough that the two currently recognized HW champions will NEVER fight each other but when one of them breaks an agreement with one of the few viable HW contenders of this era , it's just annoying. Vitali's 40 years old and he's had a really good run. He needs to defend his title or retire and work Wlad's corner.
