yeesh man. this guy is on a rapid decline. after losing to Miguel Vasquez on the Cotto-Mayorga undercard he loses at home in Australia vs Ameth Diaz( dude has 10 losses. He loss was via TKO5
here is rafael's writeup. Panama's Diaz, 28, traveled to Zappavigna's native Australia as the clear underdog and pulled the upset in a fight to determine the mandatory challenger for 135-pound titlist Miguel Vazquez. It was the biggest win in Diaz's career. He was probably best known previously for losing a near-shutout decision in a lightweight eliminator to former two-division titlist Joan Guzman in 2008 and being knocked out in the first round of a 2010 eliminator by Ji Hoon Kim. Zappavigna had scored his own first-round knockout win against Kim in 2010 to earn a crack at Vazquez, whom he faced in March on the Miguel Cotto-Ricardo Mayorga undercard and lost a lopsided decision. Zappavigna, 23, has now lost two in a row after Diaz's surprising victory. He dropped Zappavigna, who had his hands down, with a clean right hand in the second round, but this fight was a battle. They swapped a lot of punches and both had their moments. But in the fifth round, Diaz landed a flush right hand that's stopped Zappavigna in his tracks in the middle of the ring. He was badly stunned and Diaz attacked. He landed a few more shots that forced Zappavigna into the ropes before he went down. Zappavigna was sitting on his butt with his back against the ropes taking the count from referee Robert Byrd when his trainer, Tommy Mercuri, entered the ring to stop the fight. It was a sudden conclusion to what had been a pretty good fight. Diaz won his third consecutive bout since the loss to Kim.
Zappa is easy to hit and if its one thing Diaz can do it's bang. And Zappa got bagged out. Dont think he is one the decline Vazquez is just that good and Diaz was a bad style match up and was probably taken highly and he paided dearly. Think he's still a contender in the division and is an exciting fighter that could make for great fights. Him and Rios would be a good war for however long it takes Rios to KO him but Rios should be looking for bigger fights like Vazquez or Soto or the top dogs at 140.
Very surprising, but at the same time not really? (I know, oxymoron). Diaz has some decent wins (Beltran, Angulo). I guess we all forgot that Diaz can crack.
Zappa has nowhere close to the power Baily has plus Baily is more of a boxer and doesnt get hit as much compaed to Zappa who's more a brawler and usually doesnt change a fight with just one punch like Bailey could.
