I see nothing too earth-shaking about these opinions. They aren't necessarily saying these fighters aren't great, just implying that perhaps they aren't the omnipotent demigods many have made them out to be over time. There are very valid arguments for this. They were human beings, there's no sacred ground here.

Ive never claimed any of them to be demigods, neither have i read anyone else claim them to be. Also its got nothing to do with 'sacred ground' or anything like that. Its quite clear, or should be to anyone who claims to follow boxing, that these 3 men are amongst the finest pugilists to ever lace them up. Just my two cents.

I agree they were among the finest. Tremendous, all of them. I'm just saying that despite their greatness, it is still quite possible that they get overrated from time to time on the whole. I would actually agree with that.

I wasn't speaking to anything YOU might or might not have said, just general opinions overall.

    Floyd Mayweather Jr.

'Boxing genius' 'best defensive figther ever' and 'all time great' are just three things that are frequently said about him that simply aren't true.

Look, i get what your saying. You make a rational and reasonable point and i also understand the TS question, but we're talking about sportsmen who have been at the pinnacle of their profession. Now, short of claims of shooting lighting out of his ass and considering his career and achievments, how on earth can Ray Robinson be overated? Seriously? He's universally recognised by 99.99% of boxing afficionados as being in the top2, many would say top 1, of the finest fighters ever lived, and with good reason. I just dont get it.

But I think only one person here has said Robinson is overrated, to be fair. I agree with you that he's very hard to overrate, though. Probably the finest offensive fighter I've ever seen.

As for Duran, he isn't really overrated, since he also is very hard to overrate, but he's getting so many excuses made for him that it turns many neutrals off.

When it comes to a mass popular icon like Ali there will always be detractors. Hey, ask Choklab and Janitor, his win over Liston isn't really more than what any in shape contender could have managed at the time.

Threads like this become absurd after a while, with Robinson deemed "overrated"...
