Does anyone out there have any videos of Lou Esa's fights? Would love to see them and it might reveal just how good Lou was. I feel this is a reasonable request. How 'bout it Lou - I am sure you are out there.
I feel there is no reason to launch ad hominem attacks without reason or rationale. If you feel I am an arsehole, explain *WHY*. Incidentally, I do *NOT* criticise Lou Esa as a person. I don't know the man personally. I suspect he is probably a decent enough fellow on a personal level. It is his *career* results I refer to. He never defeated a contender. He was K.O.-ed and decisioned several times by ham-and-egger opponents. He frequently was stopped in the early or mid rounds. Many folks pound on Duane Bobick for his losses. Yes, Duane was a disappointment professionally in some ways, especially after the hype he received. But he did defeat a few name fighters. And a couple of his losses (Norton, Chaplin) had an element of bad luck (Norton-throat punch; Chaplin - cuts). His only "bad" loss was against Big John Tate. First round loss on national television after rebuilding his record and announcing he was "back". Can Lou Esa claim to have defeated *ANY* contender? If so, lets hear about it. Let's see a video. I'm up for it. :happy Incidentally, it is STEELWOLVES - - *NOT* Steelwolves.
You are a very strange person, in fact a little creepy. I don't know why you are getting so exercised about Lou Esa, it seems almost obsessional. He was, once upon a time, a decent prospect who never made it. That's all.
Well he drew with Tom Prator who was Larry Holmes big opponent in the Ring Magazine tournament (even though Ring was paid by King to up Prators ratings) Esa also beat Roger Russel who drew with Zora Foley and beat Leotis Martin and Esa beat Leroy Diggs who drew with upcoming contender George Chaplin...not great but decent wins for a guy at his level at the time
Well, I work hard at being strange and creepy. I guess it doesn't come naturally for me. Now *YOU* on the other hand . . .
Sitting here - twiddling my thumbs - waiting for some brave spirit to upload some videos of Lou Esa's fights. Still waiting - and waiting - and waiting. ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz . . .
I vividly recall watching my teacher and sparring partner Barry The Fighting Postman Funches, and undersized 195ish guy tear through Esa in a Tysonesk way and Barry didn't get to far as a pro. For those minutia minded, hard core fans of the Rolling Stones recall Barrys cousin Tony Funches, a huge badass bodyguard for the boys on several tours.
From what I remember, Esa had no amateur background and did decently in spite of it. I sparred with Tom Prater shortly after he returned from Florida after the Esa fight and Prater was an impressive heavyweight who deserved every bit to be in the Holmes fight. I was surprised Prater was held to a draw at the time. Esa seemed to be to me a big, strong, hard punching guy with few refinements and was learning on the fly. I think we should all hope Mr. Esa doesn't get involved in this thread. If you knew about his background- and a sanitized version is out there regarding why he was arrested and who he was working for- you would be glad he doesn't know about ESB. Or you might want to alert him about Steelwolves.
Guys, I have been doing a lot of research lately and that is why I haven't been on, But I just clicked on this site and saw the name of Lou Esa. When I was a kid growing up in Paterson New Jersey, I knew Lou. He was a few years younger then I was but I was at his 1st ever boxing match in the play ground of Riverside Oval in Paterson. He made short work of a boy by the name of Joe Ross. I met Lou years later after his career was over and now he is not only a trainer but he is one of my Amateur Officials in New Jersey. I last saw him this past Saturday at a Trenton Show. He does have a background that I don't want to get into But if he is your friend, he will do anything for you.
I read that he is on the straight and narrow and seems pretty happy being able to work in the business. I wish him the best. Sounds like he had some rough times and worked hard to get where he is at. Best wishes to him.
