because there isnt a legend around that has ever made a really good trainer...lots of average fighters turn out to be great trainers, but doesnt usally happen for the big time guys who made it...same with NBA coaches and MLB , NFL coaches.... michael jordan is the greatest player to ever play in the NBA...was the worst GM in history .....there are a few exceptions, but not many.....

But you don't think B-Hop will ever train? He might.

yes so long as he kept spoken advice short and to the point, he tends to waffle

You make some good points. I think part of the reason many superstars in their respective sports don't make great coaches is because for them it came very easily and they can't relate to the work and reasoning that lesser mortals have to apply to get ahead.

Maybe... History says no, but you never know.

Can he project his ideas to another boxer?
Can he correct the flaws from his pupil?
Can he adjust his pupil's style if the flaws are not correctable enough?
    Can he motivate his pupil?
Can he be patient enough to better his pupil?
Can he cope with dissapointments when the road is bumpy?

All trades of a great trainer, does he have it? :think

sure bhop is a smart (one of the smartest) boxing guys around...people dont get because he sounds good on tv and knows whats going on...doesnt mean hes gonna be in the gym 10 hours a day with fighters who dont pick up things as easy as him, that dont stay in shape all year like him, they never touch alcohol, that dont eat sweets, or seconds... aint no way in hell hopkins would last as a trainer...no one will be able to live up to his high standards and the man spent 5 or 6 years in prison,,,so you aint gonna waste his time ****ing around not doing what you should be, i promise you that

I agreed with your previous post but not this one. 'Aint no way in hell hopkins would last as a trainer' is way to negative in my opinion and assuming far too much.

I am sure I have seen him asked this question and he said he wouldn't want to train fighters because most fighters will struggle to learn what comes natural to Hopkins. He has said he will find this difficult to understand as its so easy for him and this would make becoming a trainer very difficult.

I hope he does stay around though as he is great for boxing and has so much to pass on.

Further proof to me that Hopkins is one sharp guy. Most naturally gifted athletes can't even comprehend what a challenge it is to train less gifted athletes and he's plainly already thought his way through it.

He's exactly right, and that's why great athletes rarely make great coaches. Seems like he'd be perfect giving out pointers, but anything more than that would probably drive him nuts.
