We have to learn to stop comparing the two sports. They are both highly skilled, and dangerous. If you are a boxer, you are better off b/c you get paid way more. Dana white doesn't give a rat's ass about his fighters, so let's stop comparing and enjoy both sports.

Though I am first and foremost a boxing fan, I believe K-1 kickboxing is the most skill-requiring combat style. Even more than boxing imo.

Boxing has been around for a lot longer. Imagine if we were watching Jim Corbett. That's where they're around in their development.

Of course boxing will have these advantages in polish.

Why? Because they use their legs? Because they kick?

Who are the K-1 fighters that have the sort of skill of a Mayweather, Hopkins, Whitaker.... ?

Of course it is. But in a street fight if two fighters get to the clinch... Guess who makes the decision of WHO, HOW and WHEN one of them is going to the ground? THE GRAPPLER. There are hundreds of take downs which don't require the grappler going to the ground and trust me it won't be a pretty landing. Some take downs on the street would be the equivalent of a KO.

Also, take into account is a STREET fight. So, a boxer wouldn't 100% box and a grappler wouldn't 100% grapple. It's common sense for anyone who actually trains to fight or defend themselves.

And speaking of street fighting I'll share some of this:

Look at it this way take two guys same atheltic ability:

One guy does Boxing training 5 hours a day for his whole life and is a great boxer.

One guy does Wrestling for 5 hours a day for 20 years, then learns Jiu Jitsu/Boxing and trains them for a 2 hours a day.

Look at the time difference in amount of time training your boxing you're talking 20 years, plus 3 hours every day from then on so no mma fighter can possibly be as skilled at all aspects of MMA as a boxer is at boxing, they can only really be as skilled at their base skill set, unless they are some sort of freak (Jon Jones).

Frank Shamrock can say such a thing because at the time he was very well rounded. If he were a pure boxer trying to make it in MMA, he would talk about how many more things he needs to prepare for. As an established MMA fighter with very legit ground skills, he is only saying that he understands the importance of boxing in his game. That boxing, or having boxing at a high level is a huge game changer for guys who already have a good base in MMA.

Boxing is a very refined set of skills. If you can have refined boxing skills, some power and be able to defend against takedowns, you would be an incredible MMA fighter is all he is really saying.. It's because boxing is extremely effective if you can implement it in an MMA fight. I don't think anybody has ever disputed this.
