And I stand by it, close but clear, imo JMM has the better opposition and longevity, JMM also has only 1 clear loss past his best weight and past his prime, where as Arguello has clear losses to Marcel and Pryor

Both are close, Popkins probably thinks Morales thought all the best opponents around, he didn't though, he missed JMM, Mkkinney, Hamed, Bungo, Norwood, Gainer - other than Barrera the fighters he fought from 122-126 were not better than those. Also Casamayor and Corrales called him out for a match up at 130. Morales wouldn't duck anyone but Arum steared him clear of a few fights and a few fights just didn't materialise

MAB/Pacquaio aside his resume isn't that strong and he's 2-4 in those fights and arguably only 1-5. Calzaghe has dominance and longevity, Morales has the better resume overall.

I personally prefer Morales though but there's a case for Calzaghe being higher

i rethought my placing of joe and em recently and have concluded em is defeinitely higher. he beat both diaz and maidana on my cards where as joe has just lost his signature victory as i believe hopkins beat him 115-112

That's crazy. And IMO there's no way he lost against Norwood.

Speaking of the MAB foul, I wonder what he yelled at Marquez. That was right after he Marquez was putting a nearly 10-8 beating on him, and there seemed to be no confusion or hesitation whatsoever concerning the count; he clipped him off balance, knocked him down, yelled at him, and clocked him.

i saw it differently, i think he was confused the ref didn't stop for the count so carried on his attack, my speakers don't work so i have no idea what was said.

Really? That looks really immediate to me. If the ref started counting, he probably would have prevented it by getting in-between them and sending him to a neutral corner, but I don't think Barrera really processed "wait, why isn't this being counted, **** Marquez I'm going to hit him in outrage of my point robbery."

He did it because he could get away with it and hotheadedly wanted to make the point he was the better man after nearly getting dominated in that round.

:good Good job. Probably best, unbiased thread by a non fan of Jmm, even tho like in great rivalries and trilogies its hard to be a fan of one and not the other because it takes 2 to tango. But yea even tho Jmm made one of the greatest comebacks in sports I think after being on the verge of defeat the blitz and killer instinct from Pacman can't be denied and even tho I have Jmm winning both, each winning one apart would be more fair. Rarely have I seen 2 fighters so equal back then in their 130 days.

as he throws the punch he delays. I think jmm wins even with the kd anyways. he definitely took 7 of them rounds IMO not including the kd round.

Given Barrera's history, I'm willing to bet he purposely fouled him. Barrera is a good fighter, but a dirty one. I think Marquez would have done well against prime Barrera and a prime Hamed, but I think Morales would have beat him UD.

Thank you. As you can tell it took me a long time. I'm not even sure why I started it, at first I just wanted to judge his losses to John and Norwood for myself and after seeing great displays by him both times I watched more and more of him and began wondering why people aren't giving him his dues.

yeah the pac fights were very close, I have him winning 13 of the 24 rounds and it could easily be between 11-15.

the 2nd fight was brilliant. the first was good but after the first 2 rounds it was quite one sided with JMM taking 7 of the last 10. the 2nd fight was much more equal with a great display by both fighters.

JMM is definitely an ATG fighter and a true case of someone who did not live up to his full potential for lack of oppotunities in his prime.

Just the fact that he easily went the distance against Floyd who was one of the two best WWs in the world when they fought is pretty good in itself considering he was sort of small for a LW.
