Pretty sure it's at least as difficult to try and master what works from multiple individual disciplines and maximize their function. Ever try creating a new fighting system? Because that's what MMA fighters and their trainers are doing.
MMA has the potential to be MUCH MORE difficult than boxing but comparitively it is still in its infancy. Boxing is limited to hands but its a complete fighting form. MMA is still a mixture. It has the ability to be 5 or 6 complete fighting forms but no one is on that level. Its possible that eventually guys like St Pierre will be standard. For example when we see the future in guys like Rory McDonald, you see guys looking versatile from the get go. For the time being MMA offers you a way out i.e. you are losing the striking then go for a double leg. In boxing there are ways out but all the answers are already there. MMA is still evolving with guys trying new things everyday. Edit: I think Roy Jones said in Fighting Fit that in MMA you can still be successful by knowing a bit of everything i.e. Brock Lesnar. Eventually, you will have to know everything 100% or you are done.
I saw in fighthype. He says aswell that prefers to watch boxing than mma.A honest guy. I thik that the limitations are what made the sport complex. When you can stay out kicking and being kicked in the leg by the other guy a lot of footwork and defensive manuveurs can be missed. When you can clinch all the time and win by that way you dont need to have chin, or tha sames reflexes, counterpunching habilities, feints etc.
So what you are basically saying is that MMA fighters dont need the same skill sets as boxers, due to them not being boxers. And being limited by the rules does indeed improve your skills in one aspect of the game, but limits it in others. If a boxer in MMA in neutralised by a clinch, then doesnt that show it's limitations as a martial art. I love the way you are dismissing the skills you need to be an effective clinch fighter. It's not as easy as it looks Bet you were top of your class
Frank Shamrock is a no0B looking for attention. I would agree that in boxing you need to be more conditioned in a certain way at the top level but after 5 minutes of grappling that conditioning would count for nothing. As far as skills goes... Of course a boxer will have better hands if he is a better boxer. You can't just say all boxers are amazing at boxing and all MMA fighters are the same. I love boxing and love MMA. They are both separate sports though. If I was offered an MMA match against a boxer with MMA rules I'd take it. If I was offered the same match against the same guy with boxing rules I'd turn it down... Lynchburg
:good I was thinking the same thing. Some epic ******s. The Mayweather comment was awesome - **** MMA, put him in with Yod or Saenchai and wach them beat his arse standing up.:rofl
Muay Thai fighters have challenged boxing champions in championship fights for the Muay Thai fighter's very first boxing ( Queensbury type ) fight and won. So doesn't that say something? People seem to mistakenly believe that grappling is MMA, it's not, it's part of the many skills a competitor would need to be succesful in MMA. Boxing requires "sharper" skills than MMA, because the rules of boxing limit what techniques can be used. MMA, on the other hand, if you miss a strike you can go to a "dominant position" etc. IMO, boxing requires skills to be supremely developed but a limited number of skills when compared to MMA which requires a larger skillset.
I dont even know what TMA is Floyd Mayweather [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CASXye4AZ-o[/ame] What makes me a ***, something like this? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hx66LWV-CCk[/ame] Gotta love boxing fans :rofl:hi:
I'm a fan of both apples and oranges, but oranges are harder to peel, and hence harder to eat. Some people just don't have the skill to successfully consume an orange, pretty much anyone could eat an apple, as it takes **** all skill and it's mostly just biting and chewing.
:good But because apples are in the bible they are superior to oranges. That's where these topics from the general forum go.
