Whatever his reason, his chances to fight somebody like Bute is not going to come along alot more, if ever. He did not even have to beat Bute to get back in the mix and have big fights, in that division, just needed a solid performance.
I think Bute is about the worst Possible match up for Pavlik besides maybe Ward. Pavlik was not looking good his last fight he needs to build confidence with easier fights. Pavlik chances of winning the fight were small fighting in Canada, he would have to beat Bute clearly to get the decision. And There would be a good chance of Pavlik getting the worst beating of his life imo. At the end of it all he ends up with a million he does not really need and maybe a beating that damages his career. Whats likely disturbing from Pavliks point of veiw now that he realizes that Bute is a bad fight for him is that everyone involved with him wanted the fight.
I gotta think this is an excuse. It's been said that he's been hitting the sauce again, and probably didn't get himself in the right shape or frame of mind. So this week he comes up with this 50K nonsense. He knew that Cunningham is no pushover, and the fight would probably go at least 7-8 rds. I gotta think he didnt believe he had it in him. A fit, and clearheaded Pavlik stops this guy inside 8. Cunningham beat an aged Antoin Echols like 2 years ago and NOBODY before or since. Pavlik would have made more than 50K too, that was just guaranteed money. As for the Bute fight, yeah this whole thing was bull, but Kelly probably would still make more fighting Bute than Froch, especially if Froch loses to Ward. Cmon Ghost....get it through your head man....your NOT the man no more. You gotta beat the man to be the man, and the man is Bute, and you just pissed your shot away.:rofl
he was getting 50K guaranteed and 100% of the profit from the card. Listen, I think Bob Arum would steal candy from children and sell old people used depends. I think he would try to orchestrate a rematch between Ali and Frazier right now if he could get Nevada to license it. But Kelly is in a **** hole he has to climb himself out of and he just dug another 50 feet down. Now Showtime isn't going to deal with him, which means HBO can low ball him and know he can't go to anybody else(Epix wouldn't touch him because they probably can't afford for an implosion to happen), he pissed on his hometown fans by them scrapping together their money to go see a fight that isn't happening now, and now Bob Arum is probably afraid to use him for fear he'll read something on ESB and flake again. He might have been getting robbed, but setting all the money on fire doesn't help your cause.
Kelly Pavlik is as dumb as a bucket of hammers! He had the opportunity to write one of the best come back stories in recent boxing history. In the process he would have become one of the highest paid professional boxers in the world. All he had to do is win two fights. Cunningham is nobody. I'd pick LuJaun Simon to TKO him. KP had that win in the bag before he ever stepped in the ring. Lucian Bute is a good fighter, but his chances against a focused and determined Pavlik would be 50/50. Apparently, Pavlik has totally lost focus, and has no determination at all. The truly sad thing is that a kid who was a wrecking machine just a few short years ago is now a laughing stock. Pavlik was never going to become a great BOXER, but he once had all the tools, talent, skills, and gifts he needed to become s superstar. Now the entire boxing world is pissed off at him, and rightly so. If we could add it all up, Pavlik's behavior since the Rubio fight probably cost him $30-40 million dollars in income he will never have the opportunity to earn. It's not Cameron Dunkins fault, it's not Bob Arum's fault, and it sure as hell isn't Jack Leow's fault. Pavlik has no one to blame for totally and completely squandering his prime but himself. I have a very strong feeling he will never fight again. Good riddance!
From reading Kelly's interviews I think he realized he may have fscked this one up. The one interview I read he kept emphasizing it was a 'lack of communication'. I think at the time he BELIEVED he was getting a raw deal because he didn't get involved soon enough but once he did have time to go over the particulars he realized it was probably a good deal after all. That's my nickels worth anyhow.
This situation is bizzare. Now Jack Loew is doing interviews claiming that Pavlik knew about the fight purses weeks ago. Pavlik is blaming his manager and Top Rank, Top Rank is blaming Pavlik, Dunkin is blaming Loew, Loew is blaming Pavlik.
Know where one can read this interview? I still almost can't ****in' believe it. So many times we've (all his fans) stood behind him while the rest of the boxing world wanted to throw him under the bus, then put it in reverse and back over his ass for good measure. Such a bull **** move.
That speaks volumes. that's all I can say. Top Rank et.al. wanted Pavlik to ditch Leow a LONG time ago, and Kelly would not do it. Too loyal. So with that said.......:!::!::!:
I don't remember where it was to be honest. Kelly's was going out of his way to not blame TR or Dunkin.
delvin rodriguez said on live tv on espn fnf that pavlik is to blame because fighters know their purse, who they r fighting and where. some bs going on with kelly
Bro, it's SOOOO shitty. We've stood behind Kelly thru ALL KINDS of ****. If he said he was serious and gonna get hard and comeback....we believed him.
Dude has always been Top Rank and Dunkin. They made him from a grass cutter into a multi-millionaire hosting ****in' golf tournaments. I couldn't believe the **** was coming out those first days. The damage is done, I'm afraid, as Bob Father don't play that **** AT ALL!
