Just checked the following video: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=6848488 Dawson is being himself so I got to respect the fact that he is no James Toney or B-Hop when it comes to talking to the media but damn son!! He's boring as hell and worst of all he sounds bored most of the time. Even when he says he wants to be king of the division I have a hard time believing it.. With all the tools he's got he could be much more but he'll stay an underachiever I think. Even though he might be able to decision B-Hop. I remember a while ago they (Shaw and himself) were saying he will compete at HW one day but so far it ain't happening and might never happen. Heart is key in this sport: u need more than heart but without it u won't go far.
Yeah, there is something defiinitely missing from Dawson that will see him never achieve greatness, or even hold the belts during his career. It seems all of the current US HWs also lacked that same, SOMETHING.
It seems like Dawson has lost some of his spark. I don't like it. He has the physical tools to beat Hopkins. But if he doesn't give it 110% then he will lose. You cannot give Hopkins any leeway, even the slightest lacking of intensity. I'm actually predicting that Hopkins will win. On paper, Dawson should take it. He has the physical ability to do it. But when you are fighting that sort of calibre opponent, then your mind and soul has to be obsessed with winning in order to push your physical ability to it's maximum. Dawson lacks that spark, and so Hopkins will win.
These guys have to do millions of these interviews. Besides, seems to me like isn't lacking anything.
I can only agree with that! I thought a few years ago that Hopkins would never faced Dawson bc of his obvious physical advantages but he saw that he was lacking some fire and decided to go for it. Wise move from the old fox!
^ Yep, and Hopkins has very likely seen much more than we have, so I expect a pretty much a replay of Hopkins-Pascal except with a southpaw.
That 'lack of passion' is unfortunately a problem for Hopkins. Dawson will just go about the cold, mechanical business of using his length, reach athleticism, and speed while jabbing and 'one-two'-ing Hopkins from the outside. He's more than happy to do that for 12 dispassionate rounds and take a UD over B-Hop. You are never going to look good against Hopkins, so that is the way to go.
I'm still taking Dawson... Hopkins chose Dawson because of Dawson's lack of fire... but Dawson still has enough to beat Hopkins, all he has to do is be consistent with his workrate.. that will keep B Hop at bay.. but if he turns passive. Hopkins will have time to think and seek opportunities/ holes... Dawson is faster, stronger, and more accurate at this stage of B Hop's career...
Dawson fights half-asleep most of the time. He didn't impress me at all against Diaconu and I think people are putting to much faith in him to look great against Hopkins. Can he win?...sure he can - Hopkins is way past-it, but honestly, he's pretty basic and there's absolutely nothing special about him as a fighter. Guarantee he's not going to put on a truly impressive performance.
I was at Dawson last fight at Bell Centre and I've almost fell asleep on my seat. If he does the same thing, Hopkins with expose him badly. Hopkins loves southpaw while other orthodox fighters struggle with them. B-Hop via UD.
