Is it wrong that I enjoyed Dawson getting beaten and all his weird nut-hugger fans going crazy?

I’ve never seen the fuss over Dawson. His flaws were always writ large, even in his best performances.

These days Hopkins wins fights if he can fight at his own pace. I think he'll be able to do that against Dawson whose output is very sporadic. Hopkins pts.

Hopkins UD. Like Moe Flea said, he'll slow Dawson down and reduce his workrate to something even lower than it already is. Dawson hasn't improved since the Pascal fight as far as I've seen, he looks to be doing a Povetkin and following a strict fight-by-fight regression regime. He looked poor against Diaconu, an average operator (that fight could have been a draw) and he certainly didn't look to have ironed out the flaws evident in the Pascal fight.

Hopkins will break him.

 

I take it I'm the only one who thinks Hopkins has a tougher time against Dawson than he did Pascal?

Oh, and if he beats Dawson impressively, where would you guys rank it amongst his best wins?

 

Hopkins: 1), he’s hard to hit and 2) he’s incredibly effective on the counter and on the offensive. Dawson won’t know what to do – every time he opens up, Hopkins will look for the right hand lead, if he sits back, Hopkins will use movement to get his right hand and left hook in. And he’s so accurate and poised that he will land.

We’ve seen it before – eventually the fighter just fades away because they’re not having consistent success with anything. The only way to beat this version of Hopkins is to just keep working even when you struggle. It worked for Calzaghe, who looked awful but just wouldn’t let Hopkins dictate. And as Hopkins got tired, Joe had more success.

What’s worse is that Dawson plays into all of those things. He’s passive and seems to get distracted during fights. He’s also indecisive, trying to measure what shot he can land without engaging. If someone as crude as Pascal can take advantage of that, what will Hopkins do, especially when he’s always feasted on those sorts of guys?

 

No the common perception is that Dawson is a much harder fight !

 

Pascal never struggled to land on Dawson, even with his somewhat crude attack and one dimensional approach. Hopkins is much more nuanced – he sets up his punches beautifully because he’s always looking for the openings and he immediately goes for them.

Dawson is too cautious to really control the fight and, because he’s mentally weak, he’ll just lose confidence when he barely lands and Hopkins generally does.
