Dull fights involving Haye against Audley Harrison and Vladimir Klitschko also gave Sky Sport food for thought and they decided it is expecting too much of an audience who pay a significant monthly subscription to shell-out for individual fights.

“We spend too much time trying to do deals on boxing for a limited return and do not think it’s fair on our audience to ask them to pay more for boxing,” said a senior Sky source.

So much for a Haye rematch bringing in more money than any other fight for Wlad. Where are those guys who claimed that now? Haye single-handedly killed the PPV model in the UK.

The flip side is that now guys like Khan and Froch - who unlike Haye fight high quality opposition regularly and take risks during fights - will not get a chance to make big PPV bucks.

There was an outcry with the whole Haye Harrison spectacle.

Sure enough Sky couldn't help the fact that Harrison had no intention of fighting, but the undercard was non existent. I think it was just one fight. I can't even remember.

I think that put a lot of people off for good.

I guess this is what David Haye meant when he said he was going to save boxing.

In the short term. But fighters will soon realize they will make a lot more money moving away from sky.

ESPN or Primetime will probably take the place of Sky box office in the long run.

the thing is that Hayes german fights were actually free to air in the UK, the German satelite is broadcast free over the UK :deal

Yet sky put it on their sat for a PPV price :nut And people paid !

Sky pays broadcasters for away fight and funds their own

these stooopid ppv fees have only been going to pre madonnas

****** khan haye and the like will be less well off- but not us:happy

they cant deliver a PPV product so they wont get extra:deal

this wont effect the sport in the uk and this is crucial

there is nowhere else to go other than sky to make better money

    consumers wins

big up to adam smith and co

more critisim of BS and now no more PPV

    good job !

why have all the top talent been on sky forever then ?

    Before this PPV crap ?

ESPN or primtime don have the subscribed numbers like sky to compete

sure they may get a fight here or there thats about it :yep

Haye earned Sky a huge sum of money for both fights. It's a two way relationship.

Hindsight is a great thing but at the time Sky weren't complaining at the time when millions of pounds were coming in to their accounts.

I think they're just peeved that their cash cow has run out of milk so quickly.

According to the article Sky wasn't generating the money they were expecting.

It's not just Haye though. Frank ****** recently had a PPV headlined by George Groves vs James DeGale for the British Super-Middleweight title. It bombed. There was also the Amir Khan vs Paul McCloskey fight, that Sky refused to put on PPV due to the non-existent undercard.
