    Ok..

The first thread i have done here. (so be nice :D )

I have been thinking about the fight with Ortiz, and i cant keep away from thinking this is a much tougher fight for floyd than it is for Ortiz.

Floyd has been inactive for so long and i just feel he is going to have to go to the well in this fight because i do question if he has the power to keep ortiz off. Floyd has hand troubles and inactivity mixed together coud be recipe for disaster.

We saw in the last fight with Berto, ortiz didnt stop coming.

I think it will be a more competitive fight than people would first think.

But on the other hand Floyd is a superb fighter and knowing him will prove me completely wrong.

    Thoughts?

He doesn't need power to keep Ortiz off him.

Hopkins is a defensive genius, does he have power?

Also, Floyd has under rated power IMO

Yes, he most certainly does. I think his precision and timing will immediately offset Ortiz. Ortiz doesn't take the most incredible of shots, but his chin is fine. He will get hit a lot and it will hurt. Floyd has decent power at 147.

    • Ortiz is not tougher for Floyd than Floyd is for Ortiz, because that would mean Ortiz is the favourite.
    • Yes, Floyd does have the power to keep Ortiz at bay (not that power is all you need to keep someone at bay). Ortiz' chin isn't exactly made of iron.
    • Floyd is not Berto in that he'll crumble and allow Ortiz to walk all over him.
    • Floyd's inactivity doesn't affect him like it would most fighters. He actually prefers to fight as less often as he does.
    • Floyd's hands aren't that much of an issue any more.
    • If you're expecting Ortiz to do well, prepare yourself for another disappointment, because as Floyd himself said whilst chuckling in the face of Ortiz.... he's gonna' destroy this kid.

Thank you for the response, i do hope you are right, i just have a sneaky suspicion that a big southpaw welterweight is going to give floyd a few things to think about.

You're Floyd fan, I take it?

In that case, don't worry dude. Your boy is going to have one of the most straightforward nights of his career. Ortiz' size, southpaw stance and power won't matter if he doesn't know how to use these things properly. Floyd will toy with him.

I think you're right and that Floyd won't have it all his own way, at least not early on.

But as always, Floyd will make adjustments to what Ortiz is bringing to the table and then proceed to pick him apart.

Floyd doesn't have massive power at WW, but he's got more than respectable pop. The more important part of what he has offensively is that he's incredibly accurate, and the timing of his shots is second to none. The combination of those factors essentially "adds" to his power, meaning that he'll more than get Ortiz's respect with his shots.

rico, im a neutral mate, i support boxing in general.

if i was to pick pac or floyd then id pick pac purely on ive been a fan longer.

floyd has grown on me over the past 5 yrs, at first i didnt paticularly like his fighting style, defensive wasnt my thing but ive learned to appreciate the fact he can sit within the danger of being hit and make them pay.

i think my main reasoning behind floyd maybe having a tough night is that he is getting older and father time waits for no man.

for ortiz to win he needs to go all out from the 1st bell and bully floyd. he needs to give everything he has got in the 1st round and dont let up once, thats the only chance he has. he will no way outpoint floyd nor will he ko him late on. he needs to go all out. its very risky but its his only shot IMO

    Good stuff

I’m a Pac fan and I despise Floyd. But at the same time, I recognize and appreciate his talents as much as anyone. I sincerely hope father time has caught up with him, but as we witnessed in the Marquez fight – where he was absent for two years – he didn’t show evidence of any rust. This, coupled with the fact that he’s now adopted a style where he relies more on skill than athleticism, leads me to believe that him slowing down still won’t have that much of an effect on his chances of winning. And even then, a past-prime, slightly slower Floyd, is still faster and better conditioned than 99% of the guys out there. He’s so incredibly gifted and advanced as a fighter, that it’ll only be until the age 40 that most people will have caught up with him.

The ******* is good. He won’t be losing any time soon.

Oh, and welcome to the forum :good

No way on this planet Ortiz wins this!

Apart from the Southpaw stance Ortiz is made for Floyd! Just look at Hatton and Marqeuz. Floyd love aggressive come forward fighters and he gets that in Ortiz.

Floyd used Xylocaine for his brittle hands so that won't be an issue. :D
