Am I Wrong To Rank Tyson Higher Than Holmes?

I shall look through my collection but I doubt a magazine would rate him in 1988. granted tubbs was still winning but at what kind of level? To be honest, and I don’t troll its just my opinion, the alphabet boys had an agenda. They wouldn’t rank other champions and each were in bed with their own "in house" promoters. Cedrick kushner admitted that he paid for his fighters to be rated. Each body kept rating contenders who were winning regardless of if the opponent was even a full time pro. I always found magazines had similar ratings to one another and had a duty to cut through the crap. I read all of them -KO, Boxing illustrated, The Ring-you name it I read it. Under the criterior that you beat rated fighters to stay rated Tubbs could not be rated in 1988. eddie gonzales was no gate keeper.

 

The bottom line is when Tyson came onto the scene allot of fighters had an argument to being the numero uno HW - the 2 men who arguabley should have been lineal Spinks/Holmes and the belt holders Holmes didn't defend against and their lineage - Berbick, Smith and Tucker who Spinks ducked. Then there was Tubbs and Thomas who arguably should have kept hold of the WBA/WBC belts. And then there was Williams who many thought beat Holmes before Spinks. So all in all 8 fighters who had an argument for being the best HW on earth. Tyson beat them all and Choklab is complaining he didn't fight a Cruserweight champ with no HW fights in '88

 

Not just the Evander rating stinks. Who the **** did Adilson rodriguez, orlin norris and francesco damiani beat to warrant being in the top 10 ahead of proven heavies that were still around

Very dubious ratings from the ring. these are more like sanctioning body ratings

Tyson would of fought spoon if not for the rift between tim and king. Dokes cant really be considered on the challenges to Mike

 

Holyfeild had two heavyweight fights in 1988. tillis in july and thomas in december. Holyfeild, the former undisputed crusierweight champion was rated for 5 months of 1988. Holyfeild deserved to be rated in hindsight as the over all #1 contender for that year beacuse he was in the ratings for 5 months of that year.

Tyson fought spinks in june 88' then tried to get matched up against Bruno but was KOd by a tree.

ps. the tree was also unrated!!

You dont agree with my points but they would only be null and void if what I was saying was not true.

Tubbs was not rated at all in 1988 but Holyfeild had moved up in july to heavyweight was rated for half of the year.

Holmes, tubbs, thomas, spinks and bruno had not beat rated fighters since the year Tyson turned pro but Berbick, Tucker, smith, williams and douglas were still beating rated fighters. True or false?

Keep pulling your feet out of your mouth. Your arguement was that Tyson chose Tubbs instead of Holyfield or Ruddock. At the time that Tyson fought Tubbs, Holyfield was not a heavyweight!

Tyson was originally scheduled to fight Razor Ruddock in the Canadian Winter of '89.

In the Summer of 1989, promoter, Don King, was searching for an opponent and a venue. The heavyweight champion was turning into a loosing proposition for the casinos. Tyson's quick knock out of Carl Williams had left Donald Trump feeling burned and unwilling to pay Tyson's asking price. The ever resourceful King signed Ruddock to fight Tyson for 1 million dollars and arranged a venue in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

In mid-October "Team Tyson" set up camp in Edmonton, and an out of condition ring rusty Tyson began training for a Razor Ruddock, who upon closer examination was seeming anything but the sure thing knock-out King had planned. Ultimately, the fight would be postponed and then cancelled when Tyson complaining of chest pains was diagnosed with pleurisy.

So when in 1988 did you want him Tyson to face him, after he'd had 1 fight against a journeyman? Or in December a week after his first fight against a contender? Maybe on Christmas Day?

This would be far less embarassing for you if you just admitted you pulled the wrong boxrec rankings and made a mistake which we all know is what happened

Notice Tony Tubbs is ranked #5, later that month he would beat Jerry Halstead, & in September he would beat Eddie Gonzales, so i assume Tubbs would've been in the Ring Mag top 10 until he was demolished by Tyson at the end of March '88. Really, we need the rankings from the issue which came out at the begining of March '88, but i don't know if that would be refered to as the "March" or "April" issue of '88

*May '87 issue came out while the IBF title was vacant, before Tucker won it from Buster by TKO10 on May 30th.
