    Patterson-Ellis 1968 was a real heist.

Ha ha, apparently in your case you listened to 'one' person's opinion to decide that the Hopkins decison wasn't quite right. Talk about a misuse of stats.
    :lol::lol::lol: :dead

    Yes.

It was just some of the comments. I recall after a very close round they said "you'd have to be wearing a mask not to give that to McCallum". If I recall correctly, at least one of the judges gave Toney that actual round.:huh

You're a big fan of taking things out of context so i'll leave it there with you.

    Have a good day sir.

    A-N 3 (just watched)

1: 10-9 - good first round by ali, landing good shots and staying ut of range for the most part.
2: 9-10 - clear norton round with ali seeming unable to avoid the shots from his awkward stance.
3: 9-10 - close round, but norton was the ring general and i preffered his big shots to ali's shoe shining.
4: 9-10 - another close round, norton seemd the general and was able to land his big right throughout the round, finishing quite strongly
5: 9-10 - ali trying to rope a dope but just getting tagged at will by norton in quite a 1 sided round.
6: 9-10 - ali fights a bit better at some points keeping norton at rage, but he just as no answer for his wild attacks and loses another clear round.
7: 10-9 - ali opened up more looking in control, norton was able to land a couple of looping rights but not enough to steal the round.
8: 9-10 good work closing ali down and really good mix of body shots and head shots by nroton.
9: 10-9 - dominant round by ali, really controlled the action from the outside making norton look quite poor at times.
10: 10-9 - ali seemed to take this round off but norton did even less. good finish by norton in the last 10 seconds but it was too little too late to nick the round.
11: 10-9 - very good action round, ali landing at will for the most part with sustained combos, good finish by norton but again, too little too late.
12: 9-10 - close round but i think norton showedsuperior defence and aggression plus his shots were much more effective imo.
13: 9-10 - great round, very action packe with the two trading shots but it can't be denied that norton is the bigger puncher in this fight and his sots are having much more effect than the blocked shots being thrown by ali.
14: 9-10 - another good round, ali visibly tiring now so having to stand and trade much more which gives the edge to the harder punching norton, ali still is unable to avoid the looping lefts and resorts to just covering up when he takes the big body combos.
15: 10-9 - all the hard shots came from norton at the end but it doesn't negate the 2 minutes plus of nothing as he was controlled by ali's outside jab and footwork.

    M-N

1: 10-9 - cagey first round, norwood stalking with his slippery stance and marquez jabbing off the back foot later in the round M gets a couple of decent combos in.
2: 8-10 - beautiful counter left by norwood dropping M early on. norwood lands some good lefts later in the round also.
3: 10-9 - norwood fighting very negative this round and still being caught with clean shots by M.
4: 10-9 - marquez again chasing N round the ring and still landing some good combos on him. N lands a flashy 1-2 but aside from that did nothing of note.
5: 10-9 - again N being very negative, lands a good combo early on but then for the rest of the round retreats and still gets tagged regularly by M.
6: 10-9 - another frustrating round, norwood thinking he can win by landing one clean shot and avoiding everything marquez throws at him, not realising that M's shots are still getting through.
7: 9-10 - norwood alnded some cracking counters this round whilst slipping the majority of M's punches.
8: 10-9 - good round by marquez, landing his right hand consistently throughout the round, denied a clear kd.
9: 10-8 - good round by marquez again, landing good combos and dropping norwood just before the bell.
10: 10-9 - marquez again dictating the action, norwood fighting a very defensive fight but still being caught by marquez.
11: 9-10 - norwood lands some good shots on marquez and slips out of the way of most of the return fire.
12: 10-9 - very scruffy round, norwood lands some eye catching lefts but for the most part is on the back foot being tagged as he tries slipping.

    Pac-Marquez 1

1: 10-6 - we all know the story here, completely one sided round
2: 10-9 - another rough round for marquez as pac found success with his left. jmm fired back with a couple of combos but for the most part was on the back foot under attacke
3: 9-10 - good round for marquez who was able to stand his ground and time pacman on the way in to good effect.
4: 9-10 - really close roung, pac started well, jmm adjusted well and finished slightly stronger rocking pac with a good right hand just before the bell.
5: 9-10 - great round with marquez landed some huge solid shots that pac walked right onto
6: 9-10 - very good marquez round, by this point he has pac completely sussed so much so that pac looked scared to throw towards tyhe end of the round for fear he'd be countered.
7: 10-9 - big improvement by pac who picked his shots much better using spped and range to pick marquez off.
8: 10-9 - a good display of speed and range by pacman here as he picks his shots brilliantly to win another round.
9: 9-10 - very close round, pac's speed gives him a good finish as he reverts back to pot shotting but the first 2 minutes were controlled by marquez's timing and good body work.
10: 10-9 - pac uses the 1-2 to great effect and even tho marquez has some good moments it isn't enough to negate pac's quick accurate work.
11: 9-10 - very good round with the two exchanging big shots but marquez coming out on top.
12: 9-10 - good finish by marquez who times pac with big strong combos in a fantastic finish to a fantastic fight.

    113-112

footnote, it's interesting to note that using the old scoring system marquez wins 7 rounds to 5, but the 3 knockdowns have ultimately won it for pac on my cards.

    Hopkins-Calzaghe

1: 10-8 clear hopkins round with the knockdown to boot.
2: 10-9 hopkins wins the round based on clean effective punches and effective aggression.
3: 10-9 hopkins again landing the cleaner shots and having the more effective aggression.
4: 9-10 good display of ring genralship by calzaghe as he pretty much bossed the round.
5: 9-10 very good jabbing by joe off the front foot to take the early part of the round, coming off lsightly better in the latter exchanges.
6: 10-9 aside from a good left landed by joe at the start of the round he was quite soundly outboxed by hopkins on the back foot.
7: 10-9 joe misses far too many punches and the only meaningful punch is landed by hop at the end of the round as he stuns joe.
8: 9-10 hopkins nullifies most of joe's attack on the backfoot but fails top land anything significant himself aside from a flashy combo at the bell
9: 10-9 brilliant defensive display by hopkins landing some very good clean counters in the process.
10: 9-10 hopkins takes a breather after going down from a dubious low blow and the finesse of his earlier counters seems to abandon him.
11: 10-9 again the finesse of hopkins earlier work isn't there but this time he seems to edge the inside exchanges frustrating calzaghe.
12: 9-10 quite a scrappy round with joe winning it on ring generalship as his aggression cancelled out b-hops defence.

One of the things the fashionably maligned Cosell was good at was calmly announcing when a punch which looked good, made a lot of noise, or got a rise out of an audience partial to who had thrown it, had actually been blocked or otherwise failed to score.

Agreed. I thought Renaldo's work rate on the inside should have earned him the decision, and 'gasp!' maybe a rematch with Holmes.

I haven't seen them since they aired live, but I was absolutely convinced that George Chaplin won both his bouts with Greg Page. Yancy's opinion in post #106 that Patterson deserved to dethrone Ellis is an assessment I agree with.

Did you look carefully to check how many of Larry's jabs were actually landing to the face, & how many were very frequently being narrowly blocked by the superb Robinson-esque guard of Witherspoon?
