O'Reilly from Portlaoise is some talent lads, just checking back he lost in the Worlds youth at the q/f stage to the eventual winner from India who along with Joe Ward, is probably the best young prospect in the world. Prior to that he beat the reigning world champ from Cuba. Monivea's Kieran Forde edged him out in February 1-0 so he should ruffle some feathers in the world youths and might have unsettled a few in the box-offs at 64 if he had entered. Throw in Christy Joyce and we have some really good guys coming along.

And thats only covering two weight classes matt. We speak of the 52kg prospects. Dalton has proved tonite that he is in with a shout there too. You have conlon, phelan, geraghty, burnett, molloy and dalton. It's easy to forget that guys like dalton (21) are really young too. He may only hit his peak in another 4/5 years! His age may not seem so remarkable because of how young ward, mcdonagh, o' reilly are.
You can throw declan milligan into the mix too. I know conlon was robbed against him in the ulster seniors (so his talents are somewhat overshadowed) but he's roughly around the same standard as phelan, molloy, etc. too! And only about 18/19 i think. All this considered, you could say we have 6/7 flyweights who would all be of olympic qualifying standard! Geraght and Dalton the oldest at 21:shock: It borders on frightening

Interesting conversation. I don't know what the craic with the claim to chasing down Caldwells record is about. Duddy has the 'modern' record at 26 for a start. Lots of good names being thrown in too.

Undefeated World Champion, Jimmy Barry, deserves a shout for a 50 odd fight unbeaten record back in the late 19th century.

I'd imagine the claim is being made for an unbeaten streak from the start of a career and in the modern era. Either way they haven't got the right of it on team Hyland.

I think it's just a lack of knowledge of boxing lore to be honest.

Anyway whats the big deal with the 0? I'd rather Patrick Hyland was 21-3 and having fought some decent opposition rather than the shite he's fought so far. Time to get things moving along if he wants to do anything serious with his career.

I think some of you might be getting too hung up on the Hylands claim. He currently has the longest undefeated record in Irish professional boxing. Others who have gone before had better records, current boxers may have longer unbroken records but of the currently undefeated, his is the longest.

Why make a claim if it's meaningless (false) bull**** though?

Does anyone know what sort of plans if any Peters/TG4/Coyle and Hyland have, or is this a one off promotion? It looked as if the promotion was well attended so hopefully there will be another one in the not too distant future.

Yeah a bit of shite talked last night but on the whole a great production well done to all concerned, the anylist were very good from what little i could make out
Anyone else worried about how easy Coyle and indeed Pajo got tagged last night maybe they just knew they were stronger fighters and could walk ther men down with great body work specially Pajo vicious stuff.
Would back Spike against Coyle though and it would be a great and natural fight to make.
The three rounds shown of Eades fight didnt suggest it was a 96-95 fight but as said it only showed three so those there will be able to enlighten us.(i have been told by one person already it should have been wider)
Cruises gamble didnt pay off it was abit silly and lucky he wasnt in with Fitz,
Sweeny dominated Waldron i hear before waldron couldnt see out through one of his eys and pulled out after the third but how does Sweeny think he will get a euro shot next???
All in all great to have it back on tv and i hope the fgures will reflect that.
By the way who the feck are the conway family are they some sort of christian rock and roll family band?Fair play for the sponsorship anyway.

Adam will be on in a minute to clear up this longest unbeaten record, and bang a few heads while hes at it. If not we can get Liberties to ask granddad Hyland :) seriously though Pajo looked good offensively last night. I like his body work. Does get tagged quite easily though but as someone else said, perhaps he just didnt respect the Italians power. Time to push on from this. **** or get off the pot if you will. Lindsay or Munroe please. Or even Paul Truscott. Hes fought on Peters cards before i think so shouldnt be too hard to make. Only lost to John Simpson who would break down Pajo as well imo. And he was on his way to beating him in the first fight till the cut

Just looking in todays examiner and Tommy Mccarthy aint a bit happy with the ref. Says the ref gave Egan extra time to recover after the knockdown. Ref said something was wrong with Mccarthys glove but Tommys adamant it was fine. Anyone who was there last night able to to elaborate on this? Was Egan badly hurt?

If the iaba dont pick the winners from the box offs they should definatly give all the clubs that entered their 20euro fee for each boxer, some clubs have hardly any money and have 5 boxers entered but thinking theyve a chance at an olympic qualifer they would have paid anything

Yeah he needs to fight someone decent once and for all.He looks to have the talent to take the next step but we've been waiting forever for him to do it.

I was going to say he should fight someone with a good EBU ranking but I forgot the space invader title he has makes him ineligble for that title. He really doesn't have much choice (IF he wants to make something decent of himself) but to either ditch the belt or jump to someone ranked by the WBA. Fitzgerald got a ranking with them by winning the WBF title so I presume Hyland will get something similar when the rankings are updated.

Don't agree with a fight against the non-puncher Truscott or SBW Munroe. He needs to get in with someone at his own weight who can bang a bit. As you said he gets tagged a bit easily so he need to find out if he can take a decent smack or learn to tighten up his defences against better bangers.

Yefemovich or Lindsay would be the only two fights in Europe I can think of that would improve his ranking. Aside from that he'd have to ship in someone from overseas or go on the road.

And if they can't afford to bring someone in then he should go on the road. Not being able to finance opponents here isn't good enough anymore IMO. It's crunch time!

Actually Fitzgerald got a decent WBA ranking from capturing the EBA(WBA's European title) title, so Hyland won't see himself getting a WBA ranking anytime soon unless he goes and captures the EBU/EBA or beats a ranked opponent.

You're completely right about him though, now is the time for a step up and if they complain that they haven't got the finances to do it, then he has to go on the road. I don't want any complaints of 'no one wants to fight him', if you're willing to go to America and fight for **** all there'll be more than a few promoters interested in a young(ish) unbeaten Irish fighter with a bit about him. If he has to take the short straw for a few fights so be it, but there's no time for excuses now, he doesn't get big enough fights soon and it'll just be his team's fault........no one elses.
