Score it 10-9 for Agbeko, and he enters the twelfth with a 105-103 edge and therefore can't possibly have lost (115-112 if you give him the 12th; 114-113 if you give it to Mares). Score it 10-8 for Agbeko (had Mora deducted a point from Mares) - which would have been perfectly acceptable with that blatant low blow after several warnings - and he enters the twelfth with an even wider margin at 105-102. Score it the traditionally "mandatory" 10-8 for Mares with Mora ruling a knockdown against Agbeko, and Mares is up 104-103 heading into the twelfth and therefore can't have possibly lost (114-112 for Mares or a 113-113 draw depending on the 12th round). The 12th round was very close and I didn't even bother scoring it while still seething in fresh rage from Mora's actions in the 11th. It doesn't matter anyway. The 11th determined everything.
yes but a kd round doesn't have to be 10-8,it can even be scored as 10-9 for the fighter that got knocked down agbeko can't get 10 because of the 'knockdown' however he also won the round,hence 9-9
i think your right, I wonder why my card was off by a point. So I had 114-113 Agbeko with a 10-9 round for Mares in the 11th
Yup, but you score the round 10-9, then -1 for the fighter penalized.. but the round technically is still scored 10-9. It's a 10 point must system.. not the the score however the **** I want system.
I was always under the assumption that no matter who dominated a round, if the ref calls a knockdown the boxer on the receiving ends gets a 10-8 round against their favor. Seems some judges score differently than others (10-9)
You've never heard of a round being so one-sided in Fighter A's favor that despite him getting knocked down, Fighter B doesn't get the 10-8? It's just a question of how to score it to reflect that Fighter A won the round but got knocked down (or at least ruled so). There seems to be a lot of contention regarding this.
No, you have to score it 10-9 for someone unless theres a point deduction. A 9-9 can only occur if the ref penalizes a fighter for a foul.
I scored it 115-111 My card was up b4 the official judges on IB's rbr thread. Of course I am always right so the official score was correct based on how the ref called it.
Bingo. :good This is my understanding too. The concept of "ten point must" overrides anything to do with knockdowns (but is superseded by point deductions from fouls). So if there's a knockdown, someone still has to get ten points. If Fighter B scores the knockdown in a close round, or was winning anyway - it's 10-8 for Fighter B. If Fighter B scores the knockdown but was clearly losing two and a half minutes of the round (with Fighter A dominating him before/after the KD) - it's 10-9 for Fighter B. I guess in some extremely rare cases, if Fighter B was getting absolutely brutalized and was on the verge of getting KTFO for most of the round (so that it would have been almost a 10-8 for Fighter A without any knockdowns) but he scores a flash KD of Fighter A - it's 10-10. With deductions for fouls it is completely different, and "ten point must" goes out the window. If Fighter A wins the round but has a point taken for intentional low blows/headbutts/elbows/spitting his mouthpiece/whatever - it's 9-9. If Fighter A wins the round and scores a knockdown but has a point taken for intentional low blows/headbutts/elbows/spitting his mouthpiece/whatever - it's 9-8 for Fighter A.
Thats the actual ABC rule. No need to feel bad, for people who don't know that. I've found that a lot of people who know a lot about boxing don't really understand the scoring as well as they think.
I didnt score it yet, I like to just absorb a fight first time I watch it. I was riveted it was an exciting for except for the low blows. The sad part is mares had it in the bag and on the up and up.
