This sport is fixed and dying. I like to read the boards here but usually dont' post much. I'm a pretty new fight fan and to be 100% honest I consider myself more of a MMA fan than boxing. However I started watcing fight sports around the same time (4-5 years ago). I have a few friends who like MMA enough (to them it's just UFC, i watch all MMA)... the kind of guys who don't really follow events but know the big names and if you tell them you're thinking of buying the latest UFC PPV they're more than willing to chip in. I've been looking forward to this fight and didn't want to go out until watching it. I do argue boxing versus MMA with my friends and as luck would have it the 2 guys who like UFC the most decide to come over and watch just cause I kept saying it would be a great fihgt, it was on "free" TV, etc etc. They both were hooked in the early rounds, talking about how fast and sick this Mares kid looks...and all 3 of us were on our feet and felt the fight turning when Agbeko landed that big right. But after hte numerous low blows my 2 friends just kept talking about how as shitty a ref Steve Magazzati is you would never ever see antying this mishandled in UFC and how in the UFC at least with obvious low blows they would let a guy take a 5 minute rest and not cost him on the scorecards. So i guess in the end ther's no point to this post, it's just my rant on how boxing will continue to **** off current fans and lose potential new ones who already had a negative impression of boxing. As for me i'll continue to watch but that's now golden Boy involvement in the 2 most obvious robberies I've watched live (Guzman/Funeka being the other... im pretty sure guzman is/was goldne boy).
There has been some terrible officiating in MMA as well, to be fair. It happens. As long as serious action is taken and justice is served, the sport should be fine. Hopefully that will happen in this case, because you're right: This is what drives people away. It's a disgrace to the sport.
Right. This brand new trend of corruption in boxing will surely kill this once clean as a whistle sport...
