Its Official, David Haye is the reason Sky have dropped Big Time Boxing

Well Khan is the only other truly mainstream fighter that Sky may be able to build up into a decent PPV attraction but they clearly weren't getting the returns to make it worth the effort that is required to work with Team Khan.

Also other than Khan there is nobody that is truly mainstream world class fighter that could bring in enough money for Sky to deal with the Boxing politics or the potential criticism that goes with PPV which they had to deal with Haye. Look at how much attention the PPV format got after Haye's last two fights, I don't remember there being any attention what so ever with any of Lennox Lewis's fights or with Ricky Hatton.

 

Fair enough, so rather than "Sky pulls plug on PPV" and "Haye behind PPV pull out" it should read more like: Sky are currently not showing PPV events as they currently have no PPV fighters, however once they do have a PPV fighter then they will restart PPV events.

Not exactly headline making or dramatic as some threads have made it sound

I don't know, but the main income (steady) for Sky is subscriptions, PPV is a bonus. If PPV damages their reputation and by extension subscriptions, then they will write off that side of their business.
Boxing is only a small part of the SKY/Murdoch machine.

What if Haye and Vitali do somehow schedule a fight in say 6/7 months? Would Sky reject this as a PPV fight?! Don't think so.

 

It's their own ****ing fault for hyping up Haye-Harrison as a PPV event to make a quick bit of dough.

It's not like that fight was unforeseeable.

 

If a Mayweather khan fight materialises you can bet your house it'd be on Sky Box Office

i'm pissed off we're missing out on all the big fights from America if they all go to Primetime.

I'd happily pay £15 once every few months for the odd packed Frank W card and a David Haye fight, if it means we still get the fights like Froch vs Johnson, Mayweather vs Mosely, Pac vs Cotto/Clottey/Marg, Bradley vs Alexander etc on sky sports, i fear now these are all going to be on Primetime and it'll be £6 a fight like Dirrel vs Abraham was.

 

Its not a big a deal as its being made out to be. Floyd Ortiz wouldn't have been on Sky PPV because they never charge PPV for a fight without a British fighter

Sky did bid for it, I was talking to ed Robinson yesterday

 

The good news is Sky did bid for it which means they are still looking to show the fights from the US.

I can only assume GBP think having it on PPV and selling the small amount it will do will make more money than what Sky were ready to pay for the rights.

 

That's probably true, coupled with a lack of knowledge of the TV market and all round greed.

I think it's important that boxing fans support Sky in their bid to keep boxing off PPV. It's not good for the sport at all.
