Earnie Shavers: Yes. You see, Tyson was okay, but look at the opposition [he fought]. The only great fighter he fought while he was in his prime, was [Evander] Holyfield - and he lost.

Shavers hit like a freight train. He could knock out anyone. Wlad would be asleep. Holyfield I'm not so sure about.

Shavers had a brilliant equalizer vs Wlad which would be his destructive punching power, problem is he had slow hands and average technique. Look what happened when he almost decapitated Holmes, he turned into a ******. I think Wlad takes him out in round 11

Chambers and Chagaev are the sime size as Shavers and probably quicker. They could have borrowed Shaver's power for their fights with Wlad and it wouldn't have changed anything, neither landed a significant head shot. Shavers would be a dangerous contender now as he was then, nothing more.

Shavers never beat one fighter as good as Holyfield, Tex Cobb knocked him out FFS, Quarry obliterated him. He could punch hard but he was seriously lacking in skills.
He wouldn't land a single shot on Wlad and he would be KO'd early for trying.

I am so sick of the myth of Ernie Shavers. Yes, Ali and Holmes said he hit the hardest- its not uncommon for guys to give props to fighters they beat as disrespect to the ones they didn't. Jim Braddock said Max Baer hit him harder than Louis.

But the fact is, Ali was dropped by other fighters- never by Shavers. Holmes was stopped by Tyson- not by Shavers. Shaver's vaunted power was never able to get him a win agaisnt a first class opponent with the exception of Norton. So it is exagerated and that is that.
